JOB TITLE: Senior Alarm Receiving Centre Operator
LOCATION: Glasgow City Centre G2
PAY RATE: £16.10 per hour
WORKING PATTERN: 4 on 4 off – 12-hour days, nights and weekends
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) Operator to join our Glasgow ARC. Alongside carrying out the full duties of an ARC Operator, you will act as the senior operational point of contact on shift, providing day-to-day direction and oversight to the ARC team and ensuring required standards, procedures and client instructions are consistently maintained.
This is a hands-on operational role. You will remain competent across ARC duties while supporting colleagues, coordinating incidents and ensuring accurate reporting, escalation and handover throughout the shift.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to security, safety, CCTV, access-control and building-management systems across a multi-site estate.
- Triage alarms and incidents and coordinate escalation to the appropriate internal teams or emergency services in line with procedures.
- Maintain accurate incident, activity and operational records and complete required system and operational checks.
- Act as the senior point of contact within the ARC during the shift, providing clear direction and operational support to ARC Operators.
- Maintain oversight of ARC desks, task allocation, monitoring requirements and break arrangements to ensure service continuity.
- Review incident reports, fault reports, DAT entries, logs and other operational documentation for accuracy and completeness before issue or escalation where practicable.
- Coordinate the response to significant incidents, alarms and system failures, ensuring correct escalation and timely communication.
- Ensure effective shift handovers, including significant events, outstanding actions, faults and operational risks.
- Support the Team Leader and ARC Manager by escalating performance, conduct, attendance, welfare, system or resourcing concerns when identified.
- Provide on-shift coaching and guidance to operators, new starters and relief staff and identify additional training requirements.
- Promote professional standards, including punctuality, uniform, desk discipline, appropriate system use and compliance with ARC policies.
- Lead by example and provide desk cover when required to maintain operational resilience
Experience
- Previous ARC, SOC, GSOC, security operations, emergency communications or similar command-and-control experience; three years or more is preferred.
- Demonstrable leadership or supervisory capability and confidence providing direction and challenging poor standards appropriately.
- Strong situational judgement and the ability to remain calm and decisive during high-pressure incidents.
- Ability to interpret CCTV, technical data and integrated security systems and operate multiple monitoring platforms.
- Clear communication skills and a high standard of written reporting and record keeping.
- Strong adherence to procedures, SLAs, response targets and client instructions.
- Ability to provide a checkable 5-year UK employment and address history for vetting purposes.
Licence requirements:
- SIA CCTV licence required.
