About the Role
Nationwide Hire Solutions is a hire broker which serves it longstanding customer base via a network of equipment suppliers. As Head of Supply Chain, you'll own the supplier network end to end from day to day sourcing and service quality through to commercial negotiation and strategic coverage growth. You'll be the critical link ensuring the business can reliably source the right equipment, at the right price, anywhere our customers need it.
The business has recently been acquired by Alliance Tool Hire, a leading independent supplier of small tool, lifting and survey hire from 10 branches across the South of England. You will work closely with the Allliance team to maximise opportunities from the Group’s shared supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Supplier relationship management – Own and develop relationships with our current supplier base, working with them to make it as easy as possible to work with Nationwide.
- Commercial negotiation – Negotiate rate cards and service levels that work for both suppliers and Nationwide.
- Performance monitoring – Track ongoing supplier performance, proactively identifying and resolving service issues before they impact customers.
- Sourcing oversight – Monitor day-to-day sourcing activity across the team, stepping in directly to source hard-to-place or un-sourced items.
- Data quality – Maintain excellent, up-to-date supplier data (postcode coverage, product range, pricing, performance) so the team can consistently identify the best supplier for any location or job.
- Network growth – Identify gaps in supplier coverage (by geography, product type, or capacity) and build relationships with new suppliers to close them.
- Group collaboration – Work closely with the Alliance team to coordinate supplier management activity and maximise opportunities from the Group's shared supply chain.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in supply chain, procurement, or supplier management, ideally within hire, construction, plant/tool equipment, or a related broker/logistics environment
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills, with a track record of managing margin through supplier terms
- Comfortable working hands-on with data (spreadsheets/CRM/hire systems) to drive decisions, not just oversee reports
- A relationship-builder who can balance holding suppliers to account with being genuinely easy to work with
- Hands-on, problem-solving mindset, happy to jump into live sourcing issues, not just manage from a distance
- Strong organisational skills to manage a growing, multi-region supplier base
