Job Summary
We are seeking a Accounts Manager on a part-time basis to cover maternity leave within our finance team. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day financial administration of the business, ensuring accurate financial records, timely processing of transactions, effective credit control, and the provision of reliable financial information to support business decision-making. They will take ownership of the finance function and work closely with the owner, external accountants, suppliers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Maintain accurate accounting records using the company's accounting software.
- Manage sales and purchase ledgers.
- Process invoices, credit notes, and supplier payments.
- Reconcile bank accounts and company credit card statements.
- Prepare monthly management information and financial reports.
- Assist with budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
- Monitor company expenditure and identify any discrepancies.
Credit Control
- Manage customer accounts and debt collection activities.
- Chase outstanding invoices and maintain positive customer relationships.
- Produce aged debtor reports.
- Escalate overdue accounts where appropriate.
Payroll & Benefits
- Prepare payroll information for processing.
- Liaise with external payroll providers.
- Administer pension contributions and statutory payments.
- Maintain employee payroll records.
VAT & Compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT information.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Maintain financial records in line with statutory obligations.
- Support year-end accounts preparation and audits.
Reporting
- Produce weekly and monthly financial reports.
- Monitor cash flow and provide updates to management.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis as required.
Administration
- Maintain finance-related policies and procedures.
- Support business administration where required.
- Manage finance filing systems and document retention.
- Liaise with external accountants, banks, and auditors.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a similar Accounts Manager, Finance Manager, or Senior Accounts role.
- Strong working knowledge of Sage
- Experience of payroll administration.
- Excellent reconciliation and bookkeeping skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
Desirable
- AAT qualified or studying towards a finance qualification.
- Experience within an SME environment.
- Experience of implementing or improving financial processes.
