Job Description – Weigh Room Operator
Purpose of the Role
The Weigh Room Operator is responsible for accurately weighing and preparing ingredients in line with approved recipes and bakery systems. This role is critical to ensuring product quality, consistency, food safety, and traceability across the production process. The post holder must follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), recipes, and system controls at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Ingredient Weighing & Preparation
- Accurately weigh dry, liquid and minor ingredients in line with approved recipes and production schedules.
- Follow recipe instructions precisely using the designated weighing systems and equipment.
- Ensure ingredients are staged, labelled, and made available to production on time to avoid delays.
- Complete all weighing tasks in the correct sequence to prevent cross‑contamination and errors.
System & Documentation Control
- Use bakery weighing systems and terminals correctly to record ingredient usage and batch details.
- Ensure full traceability by accurately completing all paperwork and system entries.
- Report any discrepancies, shortages, or system errors immediately to the Supervisor.
- Follow version‑controlled recipes only—no unauthorised changes permitted.
Food Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, and allergen control procedures at all times.
- Ensure segregation of allergens and correct cleaning between ingredient changes.
- Participate in audits, checks, and verifications as required.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the weigh room area.
Health & Safety
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures, including manual handling and PPE requirements.
- Use equipment safely and report any faults, spillages, or hazards immediately.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with Mixing, Bakery, and Production teams to support efficient workflow.
- Take direction from Supervisors and communicate issues clearly and promptly.
- Support training of new starters or temporary staff as required.
- Carry out any reasonable duties in line with business needs.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow systems, recipes, and SOPs exactly.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for recording data and measurements.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Strong awareness of food safety and hygiene standards.
Desirable
- Experience working in a food manufacturing or bakery environment.
- Familiarity with weighing systems, batch control, or production software.
Shift Patterns - Night Shift: 6pm to 3am and Day Shift: 3am to 12noon
