SEN Communication Practitioner – Intensive Interaction and 1:1 Support
Location: Battersea, London
Pay: £25–£30 per hour, depending on experience
Job type: Self-employed, permanent part-time
Schedule: Consistent weekly sessions (1-2 hours a week).

The role
We are looking for an energetic, thoughtful and reliable practitioner to provide regular one-to-one support for a young child in Battersea.
The sessions will focus on:
- Intensive interaction
- Speech, language and communication
- Shared attention
- Turn-taking and reciprocal play
- Child-led learning
- Language modelling
- Emotional regulation
- Confidence and independence
The child’s EHCP targets and professional recommendations will provide the overall direction. SENXpress will also provide resources, guidance and fortnightly reviews.
However, we are looking for someone who can bring their own ideas, create purposeful sessions and adapt strategies according to the child’s interests, communication and engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and lead engaging weekly sessions
- Turn EHCP targets into practical activities
- Use intensive interaction and play-based approaches
- Observe and respond to the child’s communication
- Adapt activities when something is not working
- Track progress towards agreed targets
- Write clear, detailed and reflective session reports
- Identify next steps and contribute ideas during reviews
- Communicate professionally with the family and SENXpress
Who we’re looking for
This role may suit someone with experience or an academic background in:
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Psychology
- Education or SEN
- Child development
- Early Years
- Occupational Therapy
- Autism or communication support
Experienced SEN practitioners are also encouraged to apply.
You should be able to work independently, generate your own session ideas and explain how activities support specific developmental targets.
Strong written communication and detailed report-writing skills are essential as fortnightly meeting based on the reports will be had on the students progression,

Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people
- SEN and one-to-one experience preferred
- Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
- Safeguarding training, or willingness to complete it
- Right to work in the UK
- Suitable references
- Ability to travel to Battersea
- Commitment to consistent weekly sessions
