NOW Education is proud to be supporting an outstanding specialist ASC school in Wolverhampton (WV6), catering for children and young people aged 3–19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex learning needs.
We are seeking a dedicated Male SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a male pupil. Due to the specific needs of the pupil, this role is subject to a genuine occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals with experience supporting children or young people with SEND. Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant is desirable but not essential. The role is also well suited to candidates with backgrounds in residential care, nurseries, childcare, or supporting young adults with severe and profound learning difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to meet the pupil’s educational, emotional and behavioural needs
- Support pupils with diverse learning and personal development needs
- Contribute to creating a nurturing, inclusive, and structured learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers and specialist staff to deliver personalised support
- Support with personal care and toileting where required
- Use positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
Applicant Requirements:
- Male applicant (genuine occupational requirement due to pupil needs)
- Experience supporting pupils in Early Years, Primary, Secondary, or Post-16 settings
- Experience working with children with SEND, particularly ASC and/or severe learning difficulties, is preferred but not essential
- Confident in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours calmly and effectively
- Able to build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience supporting pupils with complex SEND, including ASC and SLD
- Up-to-date Team Teach training
- Current Safeguarding qualifications
- Experience or training in communication systems such as Makaton, PECS, ALDs, or Communication in Print
