Plumbs’ Dairy is a family owned business and celebrates 65 years providing over 11,000 valued customers with high quality dairy produce and more. Our traditional values help us to deliver great customer service, supplying fresh local milk and produce using our 39 strong team of delivery drivers. We deliver to customers throughout Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex and North Hertfordshire and we are now looking to strengthen the team further with the recruitment of an experienced Depot Manager based at our Linton Depot.
Depot Manager, Dairy Distribution £30k - £35k depending on experience
In this varied "hands-on" operational based role, working alongside and reporting to the Director, you’ll ensure our Linton depot runs smoothly, profitably and efficiently, ensuring the team has everything in place to be able to do the best job for our customers as possible. From depot opening, through picking and loading, organising staff holidays and cover, rolling stock takes to ordering goods needed to fulfil orders, there’s a comprehensive range of responsibilities involved. Other key elements of the role include:
· Managing a team of over 30 delivery drivers and dealing with day to day staff issues
· Recruitment and training of new staff
· Organising cover for staff holidays and sickness
· Stock control and stock orders
· Debt control
· Site maintenance and cleanliness
· Health & Safety
· Vehicle maintenance, MOT’s and service schedules
The role of Depot Manager requires a proven track record in managing a busy distribution depot, where your strong people management skills have combined with excellent customer focus to deliver first-rate service. You should enjoy the challenge of problem solving, multi-tasking, and be familiar with the commercial sector in which we operate. The right person will proactively control costs as well as provide industry leading service. You will also have the strength and vision to help our management team with growth plans and improve the sales focus at the depot. A full UK driving licence is essential.
Due to the nature of the business and the night time hours your team work, your hours will need to be 6am – 3pm, with the possibility of being called upon out of hours, and a rota for 2 Saturdays per month (with a day off in lieu).
The ideal person will:
- Have a proven track record with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a busy distribution environment
· Have the necessary commercial and communication skills to service customers and develop sales within the defined trading area.
· Be ‘hands-on’, self-motivated, demanding, hardworking and able to work autonomously
· Have a good level of commercial awareness in a wholesale environment
- Be resilient and have excellent problem solving skills when faced with the inevitable challenges that arise.
· Be able to make sound strategic decisions ensuring the best result for the company, staff and employees
· Have an excellent understanding and experience of managing Health and Safety practices at work
- Local area knowledge of the market and sector desirable
