Our CNC machine shop produces complex 3D machined components in small batch quantities ranging from one-off prototypes to runs of up to 200 parts. We work with a wide range of advanced materials, including high‑performance plastics, carbon fibre (CFRP), and specialist engineering foams.
Job Purpose
Lead and oversee the safe and efficient running of our Rushden CNC Workshop, managing 14 machines and a team of six operators, ensuring full visibility of all work‑in‑progress (WIP) and maintaining alignment with production priorities. This role requires close collaboration with the Workflow Manager and Quality Manager to uphold ISO 9001:2015 standards, meet customer deadline and drive continuous improvement in a fast‑paced, high‑precision environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Workflow Management
- Maintain WIP Visibility: Track the exact status and location of all parts within the workshop at all times.
- Cross-Department Alignment: Work with the Workflow Manager and Quality Manager to follow strict priorities and provide clear production line-of-sight.
- Strategic Adaptation: React quickly to changing demands and adjusting workloads.
- Continuous Improvement: Consistently analyse workshop data to find and implement efficiency improvements.
- Machine Optimisation: Monitor and actively improve the operational efficiency of all 14 CNC machines.
- Schedule Maintenance: Ensure all machinery undergoes planned preventative maintenance according to schedule.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Staff Supervision: Manage the daily tasks of 6 workshop operators, ensuring high morale and motivation.
- Performance Monitoring: Review and improve individual operator effectiveness and time management.
- Training & Development: Conduct staff training, onboard new hires, and keep team members focused on their targets.
- Performance Appraisals: Complete annual appraisals for permanent staff and 3-month reviews for new starters.
- Daily Communication: Lead morning team briefings to align with daily prioritise.
- Admin Duties: Manage staff leave requests and submit accurate weekly timesheets.
Quality, Safety, & Compliance
- Health & Safety: Enforce strict compliance with safety regulations to ensure a zero-harm workshop environment.
- ISO 9001:2015 Compliance: Audit and follow internal manufacturing processes to maintain quality certifications.
- Non-Conformance Management: Investigate, document, and resolve internal rejects or quality non-conformance issues.
- Hands-on Support: Assist with CNC machining and setup directly on the shop floor whenever production demands require it.
Pay: £42,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
