Calico - Unity Developer for VR VAWG Empathy Experience
Calico is looking for a Unity Developer to collaborate with us on our project, TfGM VR VAWG Empathy Experience: a training tool exploring the fem experience of public transport.
About Calico
Calico is an award-winning social enterprise, based in Birmingham, using creativity to combat gendered violence.
Creativity enables people to see differently, think differently, and act differently. We bring virtual reality, short films and live theatre into unusual places, like police training rooms, schools, the house of commons, or public space, to connect lived-experience communities with policymakers.
We aim to build a whole-system approach to tackling gendered violence.
About the Project
Calico is working together with Transport for Greater Manchester to develop a virtual reality (VR) training tool aimed at helping address gendered violence on public transport. The tool will be delivered to frontline transport staff in Greater Manchester. The app will be deployed to PICO VR headsets via the Pico Enterprise Dashboard.
The Role: Unity Developer
We are recruiting a West Midlands-based freelance Unity Developer to form part of the Creative Team for TfGM VR VAWG Empathy Experience. The developer will work alongside a team of creatives, made up of a Sound Designer, VR Artist, and Video Editor, and led by Directors Daz Cox and Martha Harrison.
The Unity Developer will:
- Build a VR app for PICO VR headsets
- Integrate 360° film footage, audio, and 3D art assets into the app.
- Develop an interactive 360° story with branching choices, guiding users through different video segments.
- Collaborate closely with the team to integrate assets and refine the experience.
This is a great opportunity for an early-career developer, as the app will follow an existing template, and there will be chances to learn from an experienced developer who will be consulting at stages of the project.
