St Andrew's College Language Schools is seeking an organised and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our Finance Team at our Glasgow Head Office.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in finance within one of the UK's leading providers of residential English language programmes. Working closely with the Finance Executive, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of both our year-round Mini Stay programmes and our nationwide Summer School operations.
As an Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for processing financial transactions accurately and efficiently, maintaining financial records, supporting purchase and sales ledger activities, assisting with payroll administration, completing bank reconciliations, and contributing to month-end reporting. During our busy summer operational period, you will also provide financial support across multiple residential centres throughout the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Process supplier invoices and customer invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain purchase and sales ledgers, including reconciliations and payment allocations.
- Prepare supplier payment schedules and resolve supplier queries.
- Complete bank and company credit card reconciliations.
- Support payroll administration, including expense claims and seasonal payroll preparation.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial procedures.
- Prepare routine financial reports and support budget monitoring.
- Maintain accurate financial records and electronic filing systems.
- Support the Finance Team with the financial administration of Mini Stay and Summer School programmes.
- Ensure compliance with company financial procedures, GDPR and internal controls.
- Build positive working relationships across departments and provide finance support to operational teams.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Previous experience in an accounts, finance administration or office administration role.
- Experience using accounting software.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience processing financial transactions accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- AAT qualification or currently studying towards AAT.
- Experience using Sage, Xero or similar accounting software.
- Payroll administration experience.
- Experience within the education, hospitality, travel or accommodation sectors.
Working Pattern
This position is offered on an annualised hours contract, reflecting the seasonal nature of St Andrew's College Language Schools' operations. Working hours vary throughout the year in line with operational requirements, with busier periods during our Mini Stay and Summer School programmes.
Indicative working pattern:
- Mid-September to Mid-December: 5 days per week
- Mid-December to End-January: 4 days per week
- End-January to Mid-April: 5 days per week
- Mid-April to Mid-September: 4 days per week
Core working hours are typically 10:00am – 4:00pm on working days. Flexibility is essential, and occasional early starts, late finishes and weekend working may be required during peak operational periods. Any additional hours worked beyond the agreed annualised arrangement will be compensated through Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) or equivalent arrangements in line with College policy.
Pay: £25,000.00 per year
