About the Role
Drumconner Care Home is seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive Maintenance Person to join our team on a part-time basis.
Working alongside our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the care home's buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors, and staff.
This is a varied and hands-on role that requires practical maintenance skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond efficiently to repair and maintenance requests.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to the building, grounds, fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
- Ensure the ongoing serviceability of heating, lighting, plumbing, fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other building systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of the premises and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Undertake weekly fire alarm testing and routine safety checks of wheelchairs, reclining chairs, and nursing beds.
- Assist in implementing preventative maintenance programmes in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Complete Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
- Identify and report major faults requiring specialist contractors or significant expenditure.
- Supervise contractors carrying out works on site and verify completed work before invoice approval.
- Drive the minibus and residents to appointments, trips out etc.
- Maintain inventories of maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Support inspections carried out by external agencies, including the local Fire Officer.
- Provide emergency maintenance support when required.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous maintenance experience within a commercial, residential, healthcare, or care home environment.
- Practical skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Electrical maintenance
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- General building repairs
- Competence in the safe use of hand and power tools.
- Strong DIY and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and COSHH requirements.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work.
