WHAT TO EXPECT
Within this Vehicle Structures are responsible for the design and development of the body less doors (BIW), which includes pressings, castings, extrusions and body sealing media for all JLR models. It also manages the component and proto-type supplier base to ensure timing & project control is maintained.
The department is responsible for developing designs from concept through to production. Our deliverables are released 3D CAD models which demonstrate robustness via FMEAs, FDJ Tracker, DVP's, APQP and ultimately PSW approved parts and meets each programme attribute objectives.
Based primarily at Gaydon, the Dimensional Lead Engineer will work with various Structures Project teams and lead the small team of BIW Dimensional Engineers. here may occasionally be a need to work at other JLR Manufacturing or Engineering location to suit department needs.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Lead dimensional activities on assigned programmes from a Body Structures perspective.

Development and cascade of all dimensional failure modes via the SCSS process.

Develop and document assembly tolerances for major sub-assemblies.

Ensure that the Body Structures Design is constructed to meet the tolerance requirements; leading and escalating deviations appropriately.
- Co-ordinate Body Structures GD&T audits – ensuring meaningful cascade of results.

Provide suitable coaching to the team on audit results.

Provide leadership and guidance for any GD&T technical issues.

Support the project team(s) when discussing dimensional requirements with suppliers.

Develop and document improvements around Dimensional Control within Body Structures current processes, Design rules and Standards.
WHAT YOU NEED

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a logical and methodical approach to component applications, verification and validation and be able to direct the work of others.

Knowledge of 3D Experience and Catia V6, to be able to view and interrogate geometry is essential.

In depth knowledge of GD&T (to BS 8888) and be able to robustly apply this to the engineering is essential.
- The successful candidate will be an effective communicator and have strong organisational, presentation and numerical skills, this is essential.
- Familiarity with DFMEAs
