We are seeking an experienced and highly organised GP Practice Manager for to lead the operational, financial, and administrative management of our GP surgery. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of the practice, support the clinical team, maintain compliance with NHS regulations, and deliver high standards of patient care and service.
The Practice Manager will work closely with GPs, nurses, reception staff, external stakeholders, and the Primary Care Network (PCN) to ensure effective and efficient practice operations.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the GP surgery.
- Ensure efficient appointment systems, patient flow, and administrative processes.
- Develop and implement practice policies and procedures.
- Manage premises, facilities, equipment, and supplier contracts.
- Lead operational planning and service improvement initiatives.
Staff Management
- Manage recruitment, induction, training, and retention of practice staff.
- Supervise reception, administration, and non-clinical teams.
- Conduct appraisals, performance reviews, and staff development plans.
- Manage rotas, annual leave, sickness absence, and HR processes.
- Promote a positive and collaborative working environment.
Financial Management
- Prepare and manage practice budgets and financial reports.
- Monitor income and expenditure, including NHS contracts and enhanced services.
- Oversee payroll, pensions, invoicing, and procurement processes.
- Support achievement of QOF and other performance targets.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards
- NHS regulations and contractual obligations
- GDPR and confidentiality requirements
- Health and safety legislation
- Maintain practice policies, audits, and risk assessments.
- Lead preparations for inspections and regulatory reviews.
Patient Services
- Ensure delivery of excellent patient care and customer service.
- Manage patient feedback, complaints, and service recovery.
- Support implementation of patient engagement initiatives.
- Monitor access targets and patient satisfaction measures.
Strategic & External Relationships
- Liaise with NHS England, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), PCNs, and external agencies.
- Support business planning and practice growth strategies.
- Participate in meetings and represent the practice professionally.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in GP practice management, healthcare management, or NHS administration.
- Strong understanding of NHS primary care operations and regulations.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, and operational performance.
- Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree or qualification in Healthcare Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience with EMIS, SystmOne, or other GP clinical systems.
- Knowledge of QOF, CQC requirements, and NHS funding streams.
- HR or financial management qualifications are advantageous.

Working Hours
- Full-time, typically Monday to Friday.
