Pre-School Room Leader
Millie's House Nursery & Pre-School, Westminster, Napier Hall, Hide Place, London (SW1P 4NJ)
About us
Millie's House Nursery & Pre-School at Westminster is a beautifully refurbished 63-place nursery set within a historic former church hall dating back to 1904, caring for children from 3 months to 5 years. Located just moments from the Houses of Parliament, we enjoy a truly unique position in the heart of London. Our children regularly bring learning to life through real-world experiences, visiting landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Tate Britain, and exploring green spaces including St James's Park.
Our approach is deeply child-led, following each child's individual interests and extending their knowledge through rich resources, meaningful literature and hands-on exploration. We are now looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Pre-School Room Leader to lead our oldest age group and play a key role in preparing our children for the next exciting step into school.
About the role
As Pre-School Room Leader you will take day to day responsibility for the smooth running of the pre-school room, leading a team of practitioners to deliver high quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). With a strong focus on school readiness, you will guide our oldest children through a vital stage of their development, building the independence, confidence and early skills they need to thrive when they move on to school.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supporting the pre-school team to deliver an engaging, child-led curriculum that prepares children for their transition to school
- Planning and providing rich learning experiences that develop early literacy, numeracy, communication, independence and social skills
- Acting as a key person for a group of children, planning for their individual learning and development and maintaining accurate observations and records
- Tracking children's progress, identifying next steps and supporting smooth, well-planned transitions to school in partnership with families and receiving schools
- Making the most of our unique location, planning meaningful outings and real-world learning experiences across central London
- Building positive partnerships with parents and carers, keeping them informed and involved in their child's progress and school readiness journey
- Ensuring all safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare requirements are met at all times, in line with EYFS and our policies
- Supporting the induction, mentoring and development of team members, including apprentices and students
- Working closely with the Nursery Manager and Deputy to maintain the highest standards of care and continuous improvement
About you
We are looking for someone who is passionate about early years and ready to lead by example. You will have:
- A full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification (or above) as recognised by the Department for Education (essential)
- Previous experience working in an early years setting, ideally with the pre-school age group, and some experience of leading or supervising others
- A secure, up to date knowledge of the EYFS, school readiness, safeguarding and child development
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate and support a team
- A warm, caring and professional approach, and a genuine commitment to giving children the best possible start
- A paediatric first aid certificate is desirable, though we can support you to gain this
All appointments are subject to our safer recruitment process, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK.
What we offer
- Competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience
- Ongoing training and genuine opportunities for career progression
- A supportive and friendly team in a beautiful, historic setting in the heart of Westminster
- 95% Childcare discount
