Overview
A specialist SEND school in Accrington is recruiting an Emotional Regulation Mentor to join their team from September. The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism spectrum condition, moderate learning difficulties, speech and language needs, social communication difficulties, emotional regulation challenges and complex learning needs.
Working closely with educational staff, pastoral teams and specialist professionals, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils to understand and manage their emotions, develop positive coping strategies and build the confidence required to access education successfully.
This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role following a successful temporary period.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted emotional regulation support to pupils with a range of SEND needs.
- Support the implementation of EHCP outcomes, behaviour plans and personalised support strategies.
- Assist pupils in recognising, understanding and managing their emotions appropriately.
- Build positive and trusting relationships that promote engagement, wellbeing and resilience.
- Deliver structured interventions focused on emotional literacy, self-regulation and social development.
- Adapt support strategies and learning activities to maximise accessibility and participation.
- Use restorative approaches, de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement where appropriate.
- Facilitate positive engagement during lessons, interventions, transitions and wider school activities.
- Monitor, record and evaluate progress against individual targets and wellbeing outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or additional needs.
- Understanding of emotional regulation, wellbeing and positive behaviour support.
- Knowledge of autism, social communication needs or trauma-informed approaches desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Patient, empathetic and highly organised approach.
- Experience within education, youth work, care, mentoring or SEND settings beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, SEND, Psychology, Child Development, Health and Social Care or equivalent experience desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£115.00 per day
