Taste of Northumberland is seeking a talented, enthusiastic and dependable Second Chef / Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen team.
Working alongside the Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality dishes, maintaining exceptional food standards and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen. This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new hospitality venue from the very beginning and help shape its reputation for outstanding food and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
- Prepare, cook and present dishes to a consistently high standard.
- Ensure all food is produced in line with recipes, specifications and presentation standards.
- Assist with menu development, seasonal specials and new dish ideas.
- Supervise and support kitchen staff during service.
- Lead the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards at all times.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and stock rotation.
- Help minimise food waste and maximise kitchen efficiency.
- Ensure cleaning schedules are completed and the kitchen remains organised and compliant.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior kitchen staff and kitchen porters.
- Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Second Chef or experienced Chef de Partie ready to take the next step.
- Passion for producing high-quality, freshly prepared food.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure in a busy kitchen.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Good understanding of food hygiene legislation and HACCP.
- Level 2 Food Safety Certificate (essential).
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
