About the role:
We are looking for an experienced Senior IT Engineer to join our growing UK-Based Management Service Provider. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting a wide range of clients and technologies, combining traditional 2nd and 3rd line MSP support with automation, cloud, and light development work.
You will work across Microsoft 365, Windows Server, networking, and security, while also contributing to internal tooling, Azure-hosted platforms, and system integrations. You will take ownership of tickets, lead technical projects, and mentor junior engineers.
This role is ideal for a senior MSP engineer who enjoys problem-solving, automation, and improving systems - without moving into a full time software developer position.
This is not a full-time developer role. Development and automation work supports MSP operations, Azure platforms, and client systems alongside core infrastructure responsibilities.
Who we’re looking for:
- Minimum 3 years experience working in an IT MSP environment
- Strong communicator, able to explain technical issues to non-technical users
- Professional, positive, and customer-focused
- Comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple priorities
- Holds relevant industry certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, or equivalent)
- Familiar with common MSP tools and processes
- Full UK driving licence and own vehicles
Technical Requirements:
- Strong experience with Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and networking
- Good understanding of backups, cybersecurity, antivirus, and EDR solutions
- Experience with Azure services such as App service, Azure SQL, Functions
- Experience with Dev/Test environments and release pipelines
- Experience with supporting SaaS platforms in a multi-tenant MSP environment
"Nice to have" Experience in some of the below:
- Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines, Boards, CI/CD workflows
- .Net / C# for scripting, tooling, or small internal applications
- SQL Service (writing queries, views, and stored procedures, basic troubleshooting and optimisation)
- PowerShell scripting for automation, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance
- Supporting and maintaining line-of-business applications
- API integrations (REST APIs, JSON, webhooks)
- Source control using Git
What you’ll do:
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line IT support via phone, email, remote access, and on-site visit
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently and professionally
- Accurately log, update, and manage tickets within the PSA system
- Escalate issues where appropriate and follow incidents through to resolution
- Support day-to-day end users, including setup and configuration of PCs, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices
- Administer and support:
- Active Directory & Group Policy
- Windows Server environments
- Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Intune)
- Networking (TCP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, Wi‑Fi)
- Backup, antivirus, EDR, and cybersecurity platforms
- Lead and deliver infrastructure, cloud, and migration projects
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Assist with account management and client relationships
- Keep skills current through certifications, training, and exposure to new technologies
- Participate in occasional out‑of‑hours support, project work, or on‑call rota
