Job Title: A Level Maths Tutor
Contract Type: Casual / Zero-Hours
Reporting to: Administration & Business Support Manager
Typical Sessions: Evening tuition is ordinarily delivered Monday–Friday between 4:00pm and 8:30pm, with optional weekend sessions between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Hours are offered according to pupil demand and operational requirements and are not guaranteed.
Rate of Pay: £35 for the first 80-minute session of the evening and £30 for each subsequent 80-minute session.
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality Mathematics tuition, including at A Level, to pupils on an individual or small-group basis. The post holder will plan and deliver engaging, appropriately differentiated tuition that responds to pupils' individual starting points, learning needs and academic goals, supporting pupils to develop their mathematical knowledge, confidence and examination skills.
DUTIES:
- To plan and deliver tuition lessons in Mathematics on a 1:2 or 1:3 basis with students between the ages of 5 – 19 years old with various ages and abilities.
- To maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and familiarity with the relevant curriculum and examination specifications for the levels being taught.
- To mark pupil’s work, giving appropriate feedback
- To maintain records of pupils' progress and development via live lesson plans and to make sure these are updated regularly and when requested.
- To complete End of Term Reports.
- To assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks.
- To select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment.
- To prepare pupils for qualifications and external examinations.
- To have an understanding of various learning styles and tips on how to improve the study skills of individual learners.
- To work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
- To teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
- To develop and share teaching materials and save these to the resource file.
- To conduct practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation.
- To provide students with positive and constructive feedback.
- To communicate with parents/carers and other education professionals regarding pupil progress, where required and in accordance with STC procedures.
- To manage pupil behaviour appropriately and escalate concerns in accordance with STC procedures
- To cover other tutees’ tuition sessions when a tutor is absent
- To abide by the procedures set out in the Health and Safety Policy and Confidentiality/ Data Protection Policy.
- To follow the Tutor Code of Conduct at all times.
- To have a thorough understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse and to follow the organisation's safeguarding procedures as outlined in the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy.
- To record and report safeguarding concerns, behavioural incidents and other relevant information promptly and in accordance with STC's safeguarding and reporting procedures.
- To champion education for all by promoting inclusion and have high expectations for all children and young people.
- To encourage a culture of listening to young people.
- To take responsibility for signing themselves and their tutees in and out of centre at the beginning and end of the session.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics, including the ability to confidently tutor at A Level.
- A Level Mathematics or an equivalent/higher relevant qualification.
- Demonstrable ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly and adapt teaching to individual learners.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging individual and small-group tuition.
- Ability to assess progress, identify gaps in knowledge and provide constructive feedback.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Professional, reliable and able to maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Commitment to inclusion and positive outcomes for young people.
Desirable Criteria
- Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a closely related discipline.
- Qualified Teacher Status or recognised teaching/tutoring qualification.
- Experience teaching/tutoring A-Level Mathematics.
- Experience preparing pupils for A-Level examinations and familiarity with relevant exam specifications.
- Experience working with SEND/SEMH or pupils receiving alternative provision.
- Experience of 1:1 and small-group tuition.
Pay: £30.00-£35.00 per hour
