At Mencap, our Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT) function plays a vital role in delivering safe, reliable and effective services for people with a learning disability.
We are now looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Technology Operations to lead our Technology Operations (Run) domain. This is a senior leadership role with organisation-wide responsibility for ensuring our digital platforms and services are stable, secure and performing effectively. You will be accountable for the operational health of Mencap’s digital estate, including infrastructure, cloud platforms, networking, digital workplace technologies and colleague-facing technology support. You will lead key teams, including the Help Desk and Digital Platforms squads, ensuring services remain reliable while supporting the adoption of new technologies.
This role is critical in ensuring colleagues across the organisation experience dependable, responsive technology services that enable them to deliver high-quality support.
This is a full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week). Regular onsite presence (1 - 2 days per week) will be required in either our London or Peterborough office, with occasional travel to other Mencap locations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Technology Operations, ensuring stable, secure and high-performing digital services across the organisation
- Oversee infrastructure, cloud, digital workplace and user support services
- Embed ITIL-based service management and act as Major Incident Owner during critical issues
- Manage and develop technical teams, suppliers and operational budgets
- Drive continuous improvement, resilience and service optimisation
- Act as the organisational Major Incident Owner, leading response, escalation and communication during critical incidents
About You (Essential Skills & Experience)
We’re looking for a senior technology leader who brings both strategic oversight and strong operational delivery capability.
You will have:
- Significant experience leading large-scale technology operations, infrastructure or service management functions within a complex organisation
- Proven experience managing enterprise technology environments that support critical services
- Strong leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams
- Deep understanding of cloud and digital workplace platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune
- Experience managing enterprise networking and connectivity environments (e.g. SD-WAN)
- Strong knowledge of ITIL-aligned service management practices
- Experience leading major incident management and organisational response to service disruption
- Experience managing third-party suppliers and technology service providers
- Experience overseeing operational technology budgets
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues into business impact
- A calm, decisive approach in high-pressure situations
- A commitment to inclusive leadership and delivering accessible digital services
