Your Role
The Shift Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and effective operation of mechanical systems and production plant during shift operation.
The postholder will carry out independent mechanical fault finding, diagnosis, and repair across a wide range of plant and equipment, responding to breakdowns, executing planned maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement of mechanical reliability.
The role operates under the site Mechanical Safety Rules and Permit-to-Work system, with technical and statutory accountability escalating to the Site Mechanical Engineer (MDH / SAP).
Key Responsibilities
Act as a primary mechanical responder to plant breakdowns during shift.
- Independently diagnose and rectify mechanical faults across:
- Rotating equipment and drives
- Bearings, gearboxes, and couplings
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Presses, mixers, extruders, and production machinery
- Restore plant to service safely and efficiently following failures.
- Mechanical Diagnostics and Investigation on manufacturing equipment
- Planned & Preventative Maintenance
- Carry out mechanical Safety & Compliance work strictly in accordance with mechanical Safety Rules, permit-to-Work (PTW) and isolation systems, along with site risk assessments and method statements
- Accurately record work completed within the CMMS.
- Complete breakdown reports and contribute to failure investigations.
- Provide technical guidance to mechanical Craftsperson, Apprentices and junior staff
About you
Preferred Skill & Experience
- Call-out rota participation
- Exposure to TPM or reliability improvement activities
- Experience supporting commissioning or plant modifications
Essential Skill & Experience
- Industrial / manufacturing mechanical maintenance experience
- Independent or team breakdown fault finding on production plant
Preferred Qualifications
- ONC / HNC in Mechanical Engineering
- Hydraulics and pneumatics training
- Lifting equipment (LOLER training) or pressure systems awareness (BOAS / BOMSA)
Essential Qualifications
- Time-served mechanical apprenticeship or Level 3 NVQ / equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
