At the foot of Glastonbury Tor, where ancient oak trees Gog and Magog stand sentinel and the Somerset Levels stretch out to the horizon, you'll find The Middlewick. Since 1656 this land has welcomed people seeking something real and that hasn't changed. We're a 16-acre farm retreat with holiday cottages, glamping pods, log cabins, a spa, and an award-winning café, built on a simple belief: that what we eat, and how we grow it, matters deeply.
Owner Jill Barker's vision is to create a truly unique dining experience, one rooted in the seasons, the soil, and the Somerset community around us. We're looking for a junior chef/ kitchen assistant to work alongside her and head chef Elliott Leigh. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of the Middlewick story.
The role
This is a daytime position, no late nights, no frantic evening service. Instead, you'll find your rhythm in a calm, purposeful kitchen that serves our beautiful brunch-style café menu, our spa dining guests, and the retreat groups who travel from across the world to find stillness and nourishment here in Glastonbury.
Hands-on prep work, the quiet craft at the heart of everything we serve, done with care and attention to quality
Cooking and presenting our brunch-style café menu, celebrating Somerset's finest seasonal ingredients
Preparing nourishing, thoughtful meals for our retreat guests - from wellness weekends to group pilgrimages and yoga retreats
Contributing to our spa dining menu - food that feels as restorative as the treatments themselves
Sourcing and celebrating local, sustainable produce, from our farm shop and the growers, farmers and artisans of Somerset
Keeping the kitchen beautifully clean, well-organised, and compliant with all food safety standards
Managing stock thoughtfully, minimising waste in keeping with our deep commitment to sustainability
What we're looking for
Some experience in food preparation or a professional kitchen, passion and curiosity matter just as much as formal training
A genuine love of honest, seasonal food and where it comes from - farm-to-table isn't a concept here, it's how we live
Good knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards
A calm, warm, collaborative spirit, you'll be joining a close-knit team that genuinely looks after one another
Meticulous attention to detail, especially during prep, the small things make all the difference
Flexibility and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in
An affinity with the Middlewick ethos - sustainability, community, and creating something meaningful for every guest
What we offer
Daytime hours, a genuine work-life balance on one of Somerset's most magical pieces of land
The chance to work alongside our head Chef, Elliott Leigh and an award-winning team who are proud of what they create together
A kitchen that champions creativity, sustainability, and the seasons above all else
Room to grow- we invest in good people and love to see them flourish
16 acres of farmland, Glastonbury Tor on the doorstep, and a team that feels like family.
