We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and highly motivated Learning Mentor to join our nurturing primary school community. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives by supporting their emotional wellbeing, engagement with learning, and personal development.
You will work closely with pupils who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural barriers to learning, helping them develop the confidence, skills and strategies they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring for pupils with social, emotional or behavioural needs
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation and self-esteem
Work alongside teachers to remove barriers to learning and improve classroom engagement
Develop and deliver targeted interventions (e.g. emotional literacy, social skills, resilience)
Support pupils during challenging parts of the school day (transitions, playtimes, lunchtimes)
Liaise with parents/carers to promote consistent support between home and school
Collaborate with the SENCO, Family Support Worker, safeguarding team and external professionals where required
Monitor progress and maintain clear, accurate records of interventions and outcomes
Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment
We are looking for someone who:
Has experience working with primary-aged children in a school
Understands social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in children
Is calm, patient and able to respond positively to challenging behaviour
Builds strong relationships based on trust, respect and consistency
Has excellent communication and listening skills
Can work independently as well as part of a team
Is organised and confident in keeping records and tracking progress
Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable:
Training in ELSA, Thrive, nurture approaches or similar
Experience supporting children with SEND
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
