Job Summary
Tierklinik Animal Health Services UK Ltd. is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Veterinary Technician / Veterinary Technologist to support our animal-health services team in Newport, Wales.
In this position, you will provide practical veterinary and animal-care support within your professional competence and under appropriate veterinary direction and supervision. Responsibilities may include preparing patients and treatment areas, supporting clinical procedures, monitoring animals, maintaining clinical records, preparing equipment, and assisting with the efficient operation of veterinary services.
You will work closely with veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, animal-care colleagues, reception staff, and operations teams to help maintain high standards of animal welfare, client service, hygiene, and clinical support.
The precise clinical duties assigned to the successful candidate will depend on their qualifications, professional registration where required, competence, and the applicable UK veterinary regulatory framework.
What You'll Do
- Assist veterinary professionals with day-to-day clinical and animal-care activities within your authorised scope of practice.
- Prepare animals, equipment, and clinical areas for examinations and procedures.
- Support veterinary surgeons and appropriately qualified veterinary professionals during clinical procedures.
- Monitor animal comfort, behaviour, and general condition and promptly report concerns.
- Assist with appropriate inpatient and recovery care within assigned responsibilities.
- Support preparation and maintenance of examination, treatment, and procedure areas.
- Clean, disinfect, prepare, and organise veterinary instruments and equipment according to established procedures.
- Maintain appropriate infection-prevention, hygiene, and biosecurity standards.
- Support specimen collection, handling, labelling, and preparation where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Assist with laboratory and diagnostic workflows within professional competence.
- Maintain accurate patient, treatment-support, and clinical records.
- Update approved veterinary practice-management systems and patient records.
- Support stock checks and monitoring of veterinary consumables and clinical supplies.
- Help ensure equipment and supplies are appropriately stored and available for clinical teams.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with animal owners.
- Provide non-diagnostic information and approved care guidance within the limits of the role.
- Refer diagnosis, prognosis, prescribing, treatment decisions, and other matters requiring veterinary judgement to an appropriately qualified veterinary professional.
- Support appointment and patient-flow coordination when required.
- Work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, animal-care staff, reception, and administrative colleagues.
- Participate in team meetings, training, clinical updates, and service-improvement activities.
- Follow applicable health and safety, animal-welfare, confidentiality, infection-control, and professional requirements.
- Contribute to a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment for animals, clients, and colleagues.
Requirements
- Relevant veterinary nursing, veterinary technology, animal-health, animal-care, or comparable education and practical training.
- Previous experience in a veterinary practice, animal hospital, animal-health service, laboratory, or similar environment is advantageous.
- Appropriate professional registration must be held where required for the duties performed.
- Candidates performing duties reserved for Registered Veterinary Nurses must meet the applicable UK registration and professional requirements.
- Good understanding of animal handling, welfare, hygiene, and infection-control principles.
- Ability to handle animals calmly, safely, and compassionately.
- Good observation and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate clinical and administrative records.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional and compassionate approach when communicating with animal owners.
- Ability to follow clinical instructions and established procedures accurately.
- Ability to recognise changes or concerns that should be immediately escalated to a veterinary professional.
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary veterinary team.
- Familiarity with veterinary practice-management software is advantageous but not essential.
- Ability to handle sensitive client and patient information responsibly.
- Willingness to undertake continuing professional development and role-specific training.
- Availability for the working pattern required by the practice, which may include some weekends or extended hours depending on service requirements.

Pay: £2,250.00-£3,000.00 per month
