This is a combined field and office-based role, responsible for attending domestic and commercial properties to carry out detailed site surveys, followed by producing accurate, compliant and installation-ready designs for Solar PV and battery storage systems.
We are looking for an experienced individual with a strong electrical background who understands both the practical installation requirements and technical design considerations of Solar PV and battery storage systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with our electrical, installation, project management and compliance teams to ensure systems are designed correctly from the outset and can be installed safely, efficiently and in accordance with the relevant standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend domestic and commercial properties to carry out detailed Solar PV and battery storage surveys.
- Assess roof areas, orientation, pitch, shading and available installation space.
- Assess existing electrical installations, including consumer units, distribution boards, earthing arrangements and existing electrical loads.
- Identify suitable locations for inverters, batteries, isolators and associated electrical equipment.
- Assess proposed cable routes and practical installation requirements.
- Carry out surveys of commercial electrical infrastructure where required.
- Identify potential access, structural, electrical or installation constraints before works commence.
- Gather all required measurements, photographs and technical information during site surveys.
- Produce complete Solar PV and battery storage system designs following survey.
- Produce panel layouts, string designs, inverter and battery selections and electrical schematics.
- Complete system performance and generation calculations.
- Complete shading assessments and system optimisation.
- Produce accurate system designs using software such as Easy PV, OpenSolar or equivalent platforms.
- Select appropriate modules, inverters, battery systems and mounting solutions based on project requirements.
- Ensure designs comply with MCS requirements, BS 7671 and other relevant electrical and renewable energy standards.
- Consider DNO requirements and identify projects requiring G98, G99 or other relevant applications.
- Produce clear, accurate and practical design information for installation teams.
- Review designs where site conditions or specifications change.
- Liaise with clients, project managers, electricians and installation teams to resolve technical queries.
- Support the development and standardisation of the company’s Solar PV and battery survey and design processes.
- Ensure all survey and design documentation is complete, accurate and suitable for compliance and handover requirements.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must have:
- Previous experience working in a Solar PV surveying and/or design role.
- Strong practical experience within the Solar PV industry.
- Experience surveying and designing domestic Solar PV systems.
- Experience with, or a strong understanding of, commercial Solar PV systems.
- A recognised electrical qualification.
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Relevant Solar PV qualification(s).
- Relevant Electrical Energy Storage / Battery Storage qualification(s).
- Good working knowledge of BS 7671 and electrical installation requirements.
- Experience using Solar PV design software such as Easy PV and/or OpenSolar.
- Ability to produce accurate and practical designs from information gathered during site surveys.
- Good understanding of Solar PV modules, inverters, battery storage systems and mounting systems.
- Understanding of DNO requirements, including G98 and G99.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation.
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers, clients and installation teams.
- Full UK driving licence.
Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
