Sous Chef – The Cow, Notting Hill

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and support our Head Chef in delivering consistently high standards across our restaurant. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy, quality-driven kitchen and wants to play an important part in developing the team and food offering.
The Role
As Sous Chef, you will support the day-to-day running of the kitchen, leading service, maintaining exceptional food standards and ensuring the team operates efficiently. You will deputise for the Head Chef when required and help drive a positive, organised and collaborative kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in the smooth operation of the kitchen and delivery of high-quality food.
- Lead and motivate the kitchen team, setting standards through your own example.
- Run service effectively, ensuring excellent communication, organisation and consistency.
- Assist with menu development, specials, seasonal changes and recipe implementation.
- Support training, coaching and development of junior chefs.
- Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards in line with company procedures.
- Assist with stock control, ordering, deliveries, stock rotation and waste management.
- Ensure food preparation, presentation and portion control meet The Cow’s standards.
- Support private dining events, seasonal promotions and operational projects.
- Report equipment issues, supplier concerns and operational challenges promptly.
About You
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or strong CDP ready to step up.
- Ideally experienced in modern British culinary techniques, with a passion for seasonal, quality-led cooking.
- A strong understanding of ingredients, flavour profiles and contemporary kitchen practices.
- Passionate about quality food, attention to detail and delivering an excellent guest experience.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to lead and support a kitchen team during busy services.
- Knowledge of food safety, allergens and kitchen compliance.
- A positive team player who takes pride in maintaining high standards.
