The Youth Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting and empowering young people through various activities and programmes. This position involves working closely with young people to promote their independence, personal, social, and educational development. The Youth Support Worker will create a safe and engaging environment where young individuals can thrive, learn, and grow.
All roles involve working directly within a supported accommodation setting for young people aged 16–18. Both day shifts (9am–8pm) and night shifts (8pm–9am) are available, and you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your preferred option during the interview. The role will be based across one of our three nearby locations in the Pelsall and Shelfield areas, with specific placement discussed during the interview.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the team to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for young people.
- Support residents through a range of activities, guidance, and support using a positive independence model.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to youth, helping them navigate challenges, and set achievable goals.
- Collaborate with schools, families, and community organisations to support the needs of young people.
- Develop tailored programmes that cater to the unique needs of individuals, including those with special educational requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of young people, providing feedback and support as necessary.
- Accurately record and report all relevant information in line with organisational policies, safeguarding procedures, and data protection (GDPR) requirements.
- Foster a positive atmosphere that encourages participation, respect, and teamwork among youth.
- Demonstrate flexibility in working patterns, including the ability to adapt to rota changes when required.
- Ensure that all risks are identified and managed in accordance with company policies and safeguarding procedures.
- Complete a comprehensive and tailored training and development programme to enhance your skills.
Skills
- Proven experience working with children or in youth work settings is essential.
- Strong mentoring abilities to guide young individuals effectively.
- Teaching skills that enable the delivery of educational content in an engaging manner.
- Excellent communication skills to build rapport with young people, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also demonstrating initiative when required.
