The Role – Secondary School Teaching Assistant - Speech and Language Focus
As a Secondary School Teaching Assistant - Speech and Language Focus, you will:
- Support students with speech, language and communication needs across Key Stages 3 & 4
- Deliver targeted interventions to improve communication, language development and confidence
- Work closely with the SENDCo, teachers and external professionals including Speech & Language Therapists
- Adapt classroom resources to meet individual learning needs
- Encourage positive social interaction and emotional wellbeing
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Build strong relationships with students, helping them achieve their full potential
The Ideal Secondary School Teaching Assistant - Speech and Language Focus
The successful Secondary School Teaching Assistant - Speech and Language Focus will have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young adults with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) in a school, specialist provision, healthcare or community setting
- Alternatively, experience in a speech and language-based role, such as working alongside Speech & Language Therapists, delivering communication interventions, or supporting individuals with speech, language or communication difficulties
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome communication barriers and achieve their full potential
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and behaviour management skills
- Patience, empathy and the ability to build positive relationships with students
- A proactive, flexible and enthusiastic approach to supporting learning and wellbeing
- A Psychology, Linguistics, Speech & Language Therapy, Education or related degree is desirable, but not essential
- The ability to commit to a full-time, long-term role from September
