Chef / Cook
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Chef/Cook to join our friendly team at our busy prep kitchen based in Tregony, Cornwall
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys preparing high-quality food in a structured kitchen environment, without the pressures of restaurant service. You will be responsible for preparing ingredients, batch cooking, dessert preparation, maintaining food quality standards, and ensuring excellent kitchen hygiene.
Some shifts will involve working independently to complete scheduled food preparation, while others will be alongside a small and supportive kitchen team. As a result, we are looking for someone who is confident managing their own workload and equally comfortable working collaboratively with others.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking a range of fresh food items
- Following recipes and production schedules accurately
- Preparing desserts and sweet products as part of the weekly production schedule
- Measuring ingredients and following detailed recipes to ensure consistency and quality
- Working independently during quieter shifts and as part of a team during larger production days
- Ensuring food is prepared to a consistently high standard
- Managing stock rotation and minimising waste
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and compliant with regulations
- Supporting the wider kitchen team as required
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Chef, Cook, Baker, Catering Assistant, or similar role
- A good understanding of both savoury and sweet cookery
- Confidence following detailed recipes and production methods accurately
- Experience preparing desserts, cakes, traybakes, puddings, or other sweet products
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks when required
- A positive team player who enjoys working with others
- Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety
- Reliable, organised and punctual
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality food
- Food Hygiene Certificate (preferred, but training can be provided)
- Due to our rural location, access to your own transport is highly desirable
Desirable Experience
While not essential, experience with Japanese cuisine would be a real advantage, particularly Japanese desserts and sweet products. We would love to hear from candidates who have worked with ingredients and recipes such as Shokupan bread, fresh made Bao buns, , matcha-based desserts, or other Japanese-inspired sweet treats.

Location
Our prep kitchen is based in Tregony, approximately 15 minutes from Truro. Due to the rural location, applicants with their own transport are preferred.
Hours
We can offer flexible shifts and are happy to discuss working patterns that suit the right candidate. This could include school hours, mornings, evenings, weekends, or a combination of shifts.
