Personal Assistant Required – Support for Autistic Child
Rate of Pay: £14.00 per hour
Location: Dundee
Hours: 3 – 4 hours per week, usually at weekends (Saturday or Sunday by mutual agreement) with additional hours available during school holidays.
The Role
I am looking for a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to provide support to my 6-year-old autistic son through Self-Directed Support (SDS).
My son has limited speech and can present with challenging behaviours at times. We are seeking someone who has experience working with autistic children and understands how to support children with additional needs in a positive, patient, and respectful way.
The role will involve supporting him to access and enjoy activities within the community, helping him build confidence, independence, and social experiences. Activities may include:
· Soft play
· Parks and outdoor activities
· Swimming
· Cinema trips
· Other community-based activities suited to his interests and needs
Essential Requirements:
· Experience supporting autistic children and/or children with additional support needs
· Understanding of challenging behaviour and positive behaviour support strategies
· Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle
· Ability to work independently and build a positive relationship with the child and family
· Reliable, trustworthy, and flexible
Desirable:
· Relevant childcare, education, health and social care qualifications
· Experience supporting children with limited speech or communication differences
The successful applicant will be required to provide references and be willing to join the PVG Scheme (or already be a PVG member).

The Self-directed Support Service exists to support people to employ their own Personal Assistants and/or purchase services using direct payments. As an organisation we are not the employer but assist people to look for staff if they need them. If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the direct payment and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the Self-directed Support Service.
