Woldingham has six boarding houses. Marden is home to our youngest boarders in Years 7 and 8, while Main House accommodates boarders in Years 9, 10 and 11, with three distinct boarding areas within the building. Berwick and Shanley are home to our Lower and Upper Sixth boarders respectively and are stand-alone buildings; Shanley also benefits from en-suite facilities. All boarders in Year 10 and above have single study bedrooms, while younger students are accommodated in dormitories. Across all year groups, we have a mixture of full, weekly and flexi boarders.
The School is organised horizontally by year group, with each year team comprising a Head of Year, Housemistress and Assistant Housemistress. The Head of Year oversees the academic and pastoral progress of all students, both Day girls and Boarders, while the Housemistress has primary responsibility for the Boarders within the year group. The Assistant Housemistress supports the Housemistress and reports directly to them. The House team is further supported by Residential Tutors during evenings and weekends.
It is important that House staff are familiar with both Day girls and Boarders. Flexi boarding is a popular initiative, with many Day girls choosing to board for one or two nights each week, meaning that they become part of the boarding house community and fall within the care of the House team.
The post currently incorporates duties as a Spanish Language Assistant for up to 20 hours per week. Applicants who are able to undertake these duties are particularly welcome; however, this is not an essential requirement for the post. The School intends to appoint separately to the Spanish Language Assistant role, should this be necessary.
The Assistant Housemistress will be on a reduced teaching timetable, where applicable. For a non-teaching role, there will also be circumstances where you will be expected to contribute to the wider School community in a different capacity, according to the needs of the School, as determined by the Director of Boarding.Woldingham is a happy and successful Catholic boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 and is firmly established as one of the top girls’ independent schools in the UK, outperforming many schools that are far more selective in their admissions process. Central to this achievement is Woldingham’s academic enrichment and extra-curricular programme, pastoral support and caring community. Close to London, yet in an outstandingly beautiful rural setting, Woldingham has a strong community and culture building on a proud heritage that stretches back 180 years. We are committed to an exciting future that is underpinned by fresh ideas, an innovative spirit and state-of-the-art facilities.
The Woldingham community is a rich one in which many different backgrounds and cultures are represented and many different languages spoken. This diversity is valued and respected and we are keen to welcome applications from all applicants that feel that they meet the requirements of the role, regardless of their background and culture. All job applicants will be considered solely on their ability to do the job.
Once completed, return your completed application and cover letter to [email protected] no later than 09.00am on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
Woldingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS report will be required for the successful candidate.
