Salary £40,000 plus service charge

Based Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate
Reporting to Hotel Manager
Overview: Matfen Hall is a privately owned five-star country house 63-bedroom hotel, spa, and golf course. Converted to a Hotel in 1999 by Sir Hugh and Lady Anna Blackett, the Hotel was purchased by Sir David and Lady Sylvia Harrison and Family in August 2020.
Since the takeover in 2020, a programme of refurbishment and repositioning of Matfen Hall has taken place, with further investment to follow. The direction of the business is to achieve 5 Red Star status within the next few years. As Head of Food & Beverage you will be part of the repositioning of the Hotel from its previous status as a volume wedding venue and hotel to become a luxury property offering a high-level service with a broad product offering that endears guests to stay for several nights.
The Head of Food & Beverage, as directed by the Hotel Manager will be responsible for key aspects of operations at the resort, to day-to-day staff management and guests, with particular emphasis on Food and Beverage outlets but with a wider cross estate display of communication and understanding. They should be an ambassador for the brand, provide leadership and strategic planning to all departments in support of the service culture, maximize operations and guest satisfaction. Work very closely with the hotel owners and other stake holders. The Head of Food and Beverage will assist in managing the resort management team (HOD's) and overall business targets to deliver budgeted plans as well as excellent guest experience and be required to manage between profitability and guest satisfaction measures.
Head of Food and Beverage Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the F&B functions of the resort, supporting the team where required in the operation
- Maintaining equipment supplies to ensure that the team have the tools to look after our guests
- Ensure a high level of training of our team in line with the Service Guidelines issued.
- Ensure daily briefing of the team on feedback, objectives and upcoming events.
- Ensure full compliance to resort operating controls, SOP’s, Food Hygiene policies, H&S procedures, GDRP, Staff & Guests Welfare, fire regulations.
- Ensure all procurement processes are in place and supplier agreements meet the group legal criteria.
- Ensure a handling complaints process in place and oversee the service recovery procedures.
- Be able to analyse the P&L results monthly to give key feedback to the HOD’s on achieving their KPI’s
- Develop improvement plans and where necessary carry out costs savings, while maintaining customer service levels.
- Closely monitor the hotels business reports on a daily basis and take decisions accordingly.
- Working with the stores person, ensure that our beverage stock is correctly presented on all bars, drinks lists and wine lists.
- Support HOD’s with recruitment and training
- Ensure recruitment procedures are followed with full sign off from Management before roles are offered.
- Be accountable for responsibilities of department heads and take ownership of all guest complaints.
- Ensure staffing rotas are issued on a rolling 4 weekly basis so that staffing is in line with business needs and that the team have an opportunity to plan external activities.
- Support the HM in compliance with relevant legalisation, Occupational Health & Safety Act, fire regulations and other legal requirements including GDPR
PREREQUISITES: The ideal candidate is a seasoned and highly intelligent hotel professional with outstanding, management skills and extensive hands-on experience. Available to work when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
EDUCATION: Experience in resort hotel with a proven track record. Excellent computer, financial, and business leadership skills.
EXPERIENCE: Ideally 5 years’ experience in the luxury setting with hospitality industry at HOD level and above.
