Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Carpenter to join our team delivering kitchen and bathroom refurbishment works on Birmingham City Council properties. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out high-quality carpentry installations within occupied and void residential properties, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Refurbishments
● Install prefabricated kitchen units, including base, wall and tall units.
● Fit kitchen worktops, upstands, plinths and skirting.
● Create and install boxing around pipework where required.
● Prepare appliance spaces to specification.
● Install kitchen sinks (installation only – no plumbing connections to water or waste).
● Measure, cut and install PVC window boards.
● Ensure all installations are neat, level and completed to specification.
Bathroom Refurbishments
● Install Aqua Boards within bath and shower areas.
● Construct and install low-level boxing for water and waste pipework.
● Box in soil pipes using appropriate materials and finishes.
● Fabricate and install timber studwork for bath panels.
● Measure, cut and install PVC window boards.
● Apply high-quality caulking and silicone sealant to bath areas, boxing and finishing details to provide a clean, watertight finish.
Candidate Requirements
● Proven experience as a Carpenter, preferably within social housing or domestic refurbishment.
● Experience fitting kitchens and bathrooms to a high standard.
● Competent in measuring, cutting and installing a range of carpentry products.
● Ability to fabricate boxing, studwork and finishing details.
● High attention to detail and pride in producing quality workmanship.
● Able to work independently and as part of a team.
● Good communication and customer service skills when working in occupied homes.
● Full UK driving licence preferred.
● Valid CSCS card required.
● Asbestos awareness training required.
● Working at heights awareness required.
● Manual handling awareness required.
Essential Skills
● First and second fix carpentry.
● Kitchen fitting.
● Bathroom refurbishment carpentry.
● Stud wall construction.
● Boxing-in pipework.
● Worktop fitting.
● PVC window board installation.
● Silicone sealing and finishing.
● Safe use of hand and power tools.
● Understanding of health and safety requirements on site.
● Knowledge of asbestos awareness procedures.
● Safe manual handling practices.
● Working safely at heights.
