We are looking for a practical, enthusiastic and reliable Grounds & Maintenance Operative to join our team. This is a varied outdoor role, responsible for maintaining the appearance of our grounds and gardens while also supporting our Maintenance Manager with general maintenance tasks across the village.
This is predominantly a lone-working position, so the successful candidate must be self-motivated, organised and capable of managing their workload independently.
No extensive maintenance experience is required, as training will be provided for many aspects of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
Grounds & Gardens
- Maintain all village gardens to a consistently high standard.
- Care for gardens surrounding guest accommodation.
- Water plants, shrubs and flower beds as required.
- Weed, feed and stake plants where necessary.
- Maintain pathways, kerbs and external landscaped areas.
- Carry out hedge trimming, pruning and seasonal garden maintenance.
- Manage gardens with biodiversity in mind.
- Operate garden machinery safely and effectively.
- Install and repair garden supports, wires and other garden infrastructure.
- Blow leaves and keep external areas tidy.
- Monitor the condition of trees, shrubs and planting, reporting any concerns.
Working alongside the Maintenance Manager, duties will include:
- Cleaning beams and internal structures.
- Removing cobwebs from skylights and cleaning light fittings.
- Carrying out property walkthrough inspections.
- Jet washing external buildings and surfaces.
- Re-gravelling car park areas.
- Cleaning, testing and maintaining garden gates and locks.
- Testing portable appliances within accommodation.
- Cleaning gutters.
- Maintaining, cleaning and treating outdoor wooden furniture.
- Keeping all external areas of the estate clean, safe and well presented.
Training will be provided to develop skills including:
- Painting and decorating
- General building maintenance
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
- Basic plumbing repairs
- Additional maintenance skills as required
Requirements:
We are looking for an individual who has a genuine passion for gardening and working outdoors, a good understanding of plant care, watering, weeding and feeding and is practical and enjoys problem solving. As well as:
- Can confidently use garden machinery and hand tools.
- Is happy working independently for much of the day.
- Has good attention to detail and takes pride in their work.
- Is physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
- Is flexible and willing to support both the grounds and maintenance teams.
Essential Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Basic gardening and grounds maintenance experience.
- Good practical DIY skills.
- Willingness to work weekends on a rota.
Desirable:
- PA1 & PA6 qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Chainsaw certification.
- Experience within hospitality, holiday parks or estates.
- PAT Testing experience.
- Basic plumbing or maintenance experience.
£13.00 per hour
Full training and development is provided.
