Role Purpose
As a Net-Zero Consultant, you will work with commercial clients to assess their current carbon footprint, energy consumption, and environmental performance, helping them identify practical opportunities to reduce emissions and work towards their net-zero targets.
The role involves visiting commercial properties, conducting energy and carbon surveys, collecting utility and waste data, assessing renewable energy opportunities such as solar PV, and developing recommendations to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
Key Responsibilities:
Carbon & Energy Assessments
- Conduct on-site carbon, energy, and sustainability assessments across commercial properties.
- Collect and analyse electricity, gas, fuel, and other energy consumption data.
- Check and record gas and electricity meter readings, meter numbers, and relevant utility information.
- Identify key sources of carbon emissions and areas where energy consumption can be reduced.
- Support the calculation and reporting of organisational carbon footprints.
- Develop practical recommendations to help clients reduce their emissions.
Net-Zero Strategy
- Support businesses in developing realistic and achievable net-zero strategies.
- Identify short, medium, and long-term carbon reduction opportunities.
- Recommend measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational emissions.
- Support clients in prioritising carbon reduction measures based on environmental and commercial impact.
- Monitor progress against sustainability and net-zero objectives.
- Stay up to date with developments in sustainability, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and carbon reduction.
Solar PV & Renewable Energy
- Assess existing solar PV installations and review their contribution to a property's energy requirements.
- Collect solar generation and performance data.
- Identify opportunities for solar PV and other renewable energy technologies.
- Assess the suitability of commercial properties for renewable energy installations.
- Make recommendations regarding renewable energy opportunities as part of wider net-zero plans.
Commercial Property Surveys
- Visit offices, warehouses, retail premises, industrial sites, and other commercial properties.
- Assess building services and energy-consuming equipment, including lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
- Identify inefficient systems and operational practices contributing to unnecessary energy consumption.
- Gather accurate information through site inspections, measurements, photographs, and client discussions.
- Produce clear and accurate survey reports.
Waste Management
- Review existing waste management and recycling processes.
- Assess waste segregation, storage, collection, and disposal practices.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and increase recycling and reuse.
- Collect waste data to support carbon footprint assessments.
- Make recommendations to improve environmental performance and reduce waste-related emissions.
Client Consultancy & Reporting
- Build professional relationships with commercial clients and key stakeholders.
- Explain carbon and energy findings in a clear and understandable way.
- Prepare professional reports outlining findings, carbon reduction opportunities, and recommended actions.
- Present recommendations to clients where required.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to support the implementation of sustainability initiatives.
- Provide ongoing guidance to clients as they progress towards their net-zero targets.
Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of sustainability, carbon reduction, energy efficiency, or environmental management.
- Understanding of net-zero principles and carbon reduction strategies.
- Experience or knowledge of commercial properties and building energy systems.
- Understanding of electricity and gas metering.
- Knowledge of solar PV and renewable energy technologies.
- Understanding of waste management and recycling practices.
- Strong analytical and data collection skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to produce clear, professional reports.
- Confident communicating with clients and conducting site visits.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree or qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Energy Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant carbon, energy, sustainability, or environmental qualifications.
- Knowledge of carbon accounting and greenhouse gas emissions reporting.
- Understanding of relevant UK environmental and energy legislation.
- Experience working with commercial energy data or sustainability assessments.
What You Will Be Doing Day-to-Day
A typical day may involve visiting a commercial property to:
- Check gas and electricity meters and collect consumption data.
- Review the property's energy usage and identify inefficiencies.
- Assess lighting, heating, HVAC, and other energy-consuming equipment.
- Inspect existing solar PV systems and assess renewable energy opportunities.
- Review waste management and recycling processes.
- Discuss energy and sustainability practices with the client.
- Collect information required to calculate carbon emissions.
- Analyse survey findings and identify carbon reduction opportunities.
- Produce a report with practical recommendations.
- Support the client in developing and progressing their net-zero strategy.
Overall Objective
The overall objective of the Net-Zero Consultant is to help commercial organisations understand their environmental impact and implement practical, commercially viable measures that reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, improve efficiency, and support their journey towards net zero.
Pay: £32,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
