Role Overview:
We’re looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with a keen interest in developing, integrating, and prototyping electrical and electronic systems for special-purpose engineering platforms. You will join our, fast-paced Engineering team and contribute to projects from initial concept through detailed design, prototype build, testing, and validation. The role combines electrical design and systems engineering with practical, hands-on workshop activities. You will work on power distribution, wiring and harness design, electronic component selection, motor, sensor and communications integration, and the electrical assembly of prototype systems. The ideal candidate takes a pragmatic, hands-on approach to engineering challenges and is comfortable working in an iterative development environment with a “fail fast, learn faster” mindset.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the ongoing development of electrical and electronic systems for special-purpose engineering platforms, including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
- Produce electrical designs including system architecture, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable/harness designs, connector specifications, and power distribution systems.
- Perform electrical calculations and engineering assessments, including power budgets, voltage drop, current loading, cable sizing, protection requirements, and component derating.
- Assist with the integration of sensors, flight controllers, communications systems, telemetry equipment, and other electronic subsystems.
- Produce and maintain appropriate engineering documentation, including BOMs, drawings, interface definitions, test procedures, build documentation, and design records.
- Support off-site system and flight trials at external test locations, including troubleshooting and modification of prototype systems.
- Work with suppliers and external partners on component selection, procurement, technical queries, obsolescence, and regulatory/compliance requirements.
- Support electrical testing and validation activities, including bench testing, test-rig activities, continuity and insulation checks, functional testing, system commissioning, and fault diagnosis.
- Support configuration and commissioning of embedded and control hardware and, where required, interface with associated software.
- Undertake a combination of office-based engineering design and hands-on workshop activities, including wiring, soldering, crimping, cable assembly, electrical installation, fault finding, and prototype modification.
- Support the selection and integration of electrical and electronic components, including power supplies, batteries, sensors, actuators, motors, controllers, communications equipment, and embedded hardware.
Undertake rapid prototyping of electrical systems and subsystems, progressing designs from initial concepts through to fully functioning prototypes.
-
Qualifications and Experience:
Required :
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics or Mechatronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics or other relevant STEM discipline.
- Practical experience designing, building, integrating, or testing electrical/electronic systems.
- Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals including DC power systems, circuit protection, grounding, signal integrity, cable sizing, connectors, and electrical interfaces.
- Hands-on ability with electrical assembly and test equipment, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, soldering equipment, and crimping tools.
Experience producing and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
