Estate & Hospitality Manager
Marske Country Estate - Richmond, North Yorkshire
Marske Country Estate is looking for an experienced, highly organised and hands-on Estate & Hospitality Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our historic country estate and growing hospitality business.
This is a varied senior operational role requiring someone who is equally comfortable managing a team, coordinating contractors, overseeing holiday accommodation, dealing with guests, organising events and ensuring that the many moving parts of a busy country estate come together properly.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in hospitality, hotels, holiday accommodation, serviced accommodation, country estates or a similarly fast-paced guest-facing environment.
The Role
The Estate & Hospitality Manager will take day-to-day ownership of the smooth running of the Estate, working closely with the owners and wider management team.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing and coordinating Estate staff, housekeepers, maintenance personnel and external contractors.
- Overseeing the day-to-day operation of our holiday accommodation and guest facilities.
- Ensuring properties are properly prepared, inspected and ready for guest arrivals.
- Coordinating housekeeping, laundry, maintenance and property turnaround schedules.
- Managing guest communications, enquiries, arrivals, requests and issues throughout their stay.
- Maintaining consistently high standards of presentation, cleanliness and guest experience.
- Using booking and property management systems to oversee reservations, availability and operational requirements.
- Liaising with suppliers and contractors and ensuring agreed works and services are completed correctly and on time.
- Allocating work to members of the team and following through to ensure actions are actually completed.
- Maintaining accurate records, task lists, property information and operational procedures.
- Identifying maintenance or operational problems early and ensuring they are resolved.
- Supporting and helping to organise weddings, events, functions and other activities held across the Estate.
- Assisting with the continued development of the Estate's hospitality offering and identifying opportunities to improve the guest experience and commercial performance.
- Providing clear operational reporting and communication to the management team.
About You
This position requires an exceptionally organised person with strong management experience and the ability to retain and accurately recall information.
You will need to be someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do. Marske is a large and varied Estate, so the successful candidate must be capable of prioritising competing demands, remembering important details and following tasks through from instruction to completion.
You should have:
- Strong previous experience within hospitality, hotels, holiday accommodation, property management or a comparable operational environment.
- Proven experience managing staff and coordinating different teams.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to retain large amounts of operational information.
- A calm, professional and confident manner when dealing with guests.
- The ability to manage contractors and suppliers effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of cost control and operational efficiency.
- The ability to identify problems and resolve them quickly rather than allowing them to escalate.
- Confidence working independently and making sensible operational decisions.
- A practical, hands-on attitude and willingness to help wherever necessary.
Experience using SuperControl, Airbnb, Booking.com or similar booking/property-management platforms would be highly advantageous.
Experience in events, weddings, functions or venue management would also be beneficial.
Working Pattern
Hospitality is a seven-day operation and applicants should therefore be comfortable working some weekend hours.
The role will require flexibility around guest arrivals, departures, events and particularly busy periods. We are not looking for someone permanently tied to a desk or a conventional Monday-to-Friday management position.
In return, there can be flexibility in the working pattern to reflect the requirements of the Estate.
What We Are Looking For
Above all, we are looking for someone dependable.
The successful candidate will be organised, capable and accountable; someone who can be given information or responsibility once, retain it, act upon it and see it through.
You should enjoy creating order in a busy environment, managing people and delivering excellent hospitality. You will need the confidence to lead a team while also being willing to roll your sleeves up when circumstances require it.
This is an opportunity to take a central role in the operation and continued development of a distinctive North Yorkshire country estate, with considerable variety and scope to make the position your own.
