Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Machinery Operator to join our team at Brinklow Quarry, a busy sand and gravel quarry and recycling facility near Rugby.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient and productive operation of a range of heavy plant and machinery across the site. This is a varied role requiring a proactive approach, strong awareness of health and safety, good mechanical understanding, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating heavy plant in a quarry, construction, recycling or similar environment and will take pride in maintaining high standards of safety, productivity and equipment care.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy plant and machinery safely and efficiently, including articulated dump trucks, loading shovels, excavators and other site equipment as required.
- Carry out thorough pre-start and post-shift inspections of machinery, identifying and reporting defects, mechanical issues or potential safety concerns.
- Complete routine checks including fluid levels, tyres, tracks, hydraulic systems, lights, warning systems and other essential components.
- Carry out basic maintenance and housekeeping duties within the limits of training and competence, including lubrication, fluid checks and minor adjustments.
- Operate machinery in accordance with manufacturer instructions, site procedures and relevant health and safety requirements.
- Work closely with excavator operators, loading shovel operators, site management, maintenance personnel and other members of the team to ensure efficient site operations.
- Assist with the loading, transportation, movement, stockpiling and processing of materials as required.
- Maintain awareness of other vehicles, plant, pedestrians and site activities at all times.
- Follow designated traffic routes, loading procedures and site-specific operating controls.
- Report any machinery defects, hazards, environmental concerns or unsafe working practices promptly to site management.
- Maintain accurate records relating to machinery inspections, maintenance, production and other site requirements.
- Keep machinery, work areas and operating environments clean, tidy and organised.
- Assist with general site duties and logistical requirements when required.
- Support the efficient running of the quarry and recycling operation by working flexibly and responding to changing site requirements.
- Maintain a professional attitude and contribute positively to a safe, productive and respectful working environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy plant or machinery within a quarry, construction, recycling, aggregates or similar environment.
- Competence and confidence operating one or more types of heavy machinery, such as articulated dump trucks, excavators, loading shovels or other mobile plant.
- Good mechanical awareness and the ability to carry out routine machinery inspections and basic maintenance checks.
- Understanding of safe working practices and health and safety requirements within a heavy plant or quarry environment.
- Ability to identify and report mechanical faults, hazards and potential safety issues.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside other machinery operators and site personnel.
- Strong attention to detail and a responsible approach to machinery operation and site safety.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and manage changing priorities.
- Relevant plant operating qualifications or certification would be advantageous.
- Experience working around aggregates, sand and gravel, recycling operations or similar materials would be beneficial.
- A flexible approach to working hours and duties.
- Physically capable of working outdoors and in a demanding operational environment.

Working Hours
Summer: 07:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday
Winter: 07:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday
Saturdays: 07:00 – 13:00
