Service Centre Manager – Bristol

An established and successful UK-based distribution business is looking to appoint a Service Centre Manager to take responsibility for the performance of its Bristol operation.
This is a broad and commercially focused management role, combining sales, customer service, people management and operational responsibility. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the performance of the service centre while ensuring high standards across the warehouse, stock, logistics and customer service functions.
A background in metals or metal stockholding is not essential. The business is open to candidates from a range of sectors where there is a strong combination of branch management, sales, stock and operational responsibility.
The Role
As Service Centre Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of the Bristol site.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of the overall performance, profitability and development of the service centre.
- Driving sales and identifying opportunities to increase revenue and margin.
- Managing and developing customer relationships to ensure a high level of service.
- Leading, motivating and developing the site team.
- Overseeing day-to-day warehouse, stock and logistics operations.
- Ensuring stock is managed effectively and accurately.
- Working closely with internal teams to ensure customer requirements and deadlines are met.
- Monitoring key commercial and operational KPIs and taking action where required.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and profitability.
- Managing costs and ensuring the site operates within agreed budgets.
- Ensuring a strong focus on health and safety and operational standards.
- Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Taking a hands-on approach and leading from the front when required.
About You
We are looking for a commercially minded manager who understands how sales and operational functions need to work together to deliver strong business performance.
You may already be an experienced Branch Manager, Depot Manager, Service Centre Manager or Operations Manager, or you could be an experienced Assistant Branch Manager or Sales & Operations Manager ready to take the next step.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong commercial awareness and a proven ability to drive sales and profitability.
- Experience managing a branch, depot, service centre, warehouse or similar operation.
- An understanding of stock management, logistics and warehouse operations.
- Strong people-management and leadership skills.
- The ability to motivate, develop and manage a team.
- Excellent customer and relationship-management skills.
- A proactive, hands-on and commercially focused approach.
- The confidence to take ownership of a site and its performance.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to balance commercial objectives with operational requirements.
Experience within the metals industry is not essential. The business is particularly interested in candidates from environments such as builders’ merchants, trade distribution, industrial distribution, construction products, timber, electrical wholesale, plumbing/heating or other businesses where sales, stock and warehouse operations are closely linked.
Career Progression
The business is also open to candidates who have not previously held an established Service Centre or Branch Manager position.

Package
- Salary: Up to £65,000 depending on experience
- Stepping-up candidates: Typically £50,000–£55,000
- Car allowance: £7,200 per annum
