Stepford Group Ltd is a growing civil engineering contractor delivering roadworks, streetworks, drainage, public realm, surfacing and infrastructure projects for local authorities and public-sector clients across Scotland.
Due to continued growth and an expanding programme of works, we are looking to recruit an experienced Project Manager to take responsibility for the successful delivery of civil engineering projects from mobilisation through to completion.
The Role
The Project Manager will be responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of assigned projects, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, within programme and budget, and to the required quality standards.
You will work closely with our operational, commercial and site teams while acting as a key point of contact for clients, subcontractors, suppliers, designers and other project stakeholders.
The position is ideally suited to someone with strong experience in roadworks, public realm, groundworks, drainage or local authority civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage civil engineering projects from pre-start and mobilisation through to completion and handover.
· Develop, maintain and monitor project programmes, short-term look-ahead programmes and key milestones.
· Coordinate labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and site resources to ensure efficient project delivery.
· Work closely with Site Supervisors and operational teams to plan daily and weekly activities.
· Monitor progress against programme and take early action where delays, constraints or resource issues arise.
· Attend and lead project meetings, progress meetings, pre-start meetings and client reviews.
· Maintain strong working relationships with clients, designers, local authorities, subcontractors and suppliers.
· Review drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and other contract information prior to and during construction.
· Ensure current drawings, specifications and project information are available to site teams.
· Coordinate project information and site reporting through Hilti Fieldwire and other company systems.
· Assist with the preparation, review and implementation of RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and other project documentation.
· Ensure works are carried out in accordance with company health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
· Monitor project quality and ensure inspection, testing and completion records are properly maintained.
· Identify variations, additional works, delays and changes in scope and ensure these are communicated promptly to the commercial team.
· Work closely with the commercial team in relation to project costs, variations, applications, subcontractor management and overall commercial performance.
· Monitor project expenditure and assist in maintaining control of labour, plant, materials and subcontract costs.
· Coordinate procurement requirements and ensure materials and specialist resources are available when required.
· Manage subcontractors and ensure their works are properly coordinated with Stepford operations.
· Identify project risks, constraints and opportunities and implement appropriate actions.
· Manage snagging, completion, handover and project close-out requirements.
NEC Experience
Previous experience working on projects delivered under NEC3 or NEC4 contracts would be highly desirable.
Applicants with NEC experience should have a practical understanding of the contract administration and project management requirements associated with NEC projects, including:
· Early Warning Notices and participation in Early Warning Meetings
· Identification, notification and management of Compensation Events
· Maintaining and reviewing Early Warning Registers
· Programme submissions, programme updates and accepted programme requirements
· Understanding contractual timescales and notification requirements
· Recording and communicating changes to scope, programme and cost
· Supporting the assessment and management of quotations for Compensation Events
· Maintaining clear and accurate contemporaneous project records
· Working collaboratively with the Project Manager, Supervisor, client and commercial team to manage contractual risks and changes
Formal NEC accreditation is not essential, although practical experience of administering NEC3 or NEC4 contracts would be an advantage.
Experience
Applicants should have proven experience managing civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly beneficial:
· Roadworks and highways
· Public realm and streetscape projects
· Footway and carriageway construction
· Groundworks
· Drainage and sewer works
· Road surfacing and reinstatement
· Local authority infrastructure projects
· Framework and term-contract environments
· NEC3 or NEC4 contracts
Candidates should be comfortable managing multiple project priorities and coordinating directly employed labour, plant, subcontractors and suppliers.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications may include:
· HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
· SMSTS
· CSCS Management Card
· Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor
· First Aid at Work
· NRSWA Street Works qualifications
· NEC3 or NEC4 training or accreditation
Equivalent practical experience within civil engineering will also be considered.

· Professional and organised approach to project documentation
· Full UK driving licence
