About the Role
The Tekla Detailer would report to the Drafting Manager and would be responsible for creating detailed steel fabrication shop drawings. The role would involve using Tekla Structures as the primary modelling software, with familiarity in AutoCAD (2D/3D) also beneficial. The projects are primarily based in the North American steel bridge industry. Therefore, familiarity with steel structure design drawings and codification such as AWS and AISC as well as BS EN Standards would be beneficial.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Produce accurate 3D models and structural steel shop/fabrication drawings using Tekla Structures.
- Check and revise structural steel shop drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications to produce fabrication-ready detailing.
- Interface with the Drafting Manager and engineering team on technical queries and design clarifications.
- Manage own detailing workload and ensure work is completed on time and to specification.
- Maintain accurate revision and version control across drawing sets.
- Provide support to other detailers and subcontractors on modelling assignments as required.
Education
- Tekla Structures and AutoCAD software, essential.
- Qualification in Civil Engineering, not essential but beneficial.
- Equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
Work Experience
- Proven experience as a Tekla Detailer, ideally within structural steel or bridge fabrication.
- Experience in reading structural/civil engineering drawings with a view to producing steel fabrication shop drawings.
- AutoCAD – Detailing and Checking Steel Fabrication Shop Drawings.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Proficiency with Tekla Structures.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D and 3D) Software.
- Experience in detailing and checking steel shop drawings.
- Experience in fabrication shops and welding procedures helpful.
- Good communication skills, working in a small but relaxed open office atmosphere.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and accommodate job specific time zone differences.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Applicants must be willing to travel to and from South Queensferry for 40 hours p/w. Work from home option available for 2 days a week after the probationary period has been successfully passed. This position requires sitting and working in front of a computer for long periods of time during the day.
