Site Engineer
Location: Birmingham
We are looking to appoint a Site Engineer to join our Project Delivery Team, taking responsibility for the day-to-day engineering and technical control of an allocated area or package of works. Reporting to the Project Manager, Senior Engineer or nominated line manager, you will help ensure construction activities are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, programme and quality requirements.
You will work closely with project managers, designers, commercial teams, clients and supply chain partners to resolve technical challenges, support right-first-time delivery and ensure quality assurance records are in place . This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive engineer who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys solving problems and wants to develop their career within a leading UK contractor.
Key Duties
-
Undertake and check setting out, dimensional control and surveying activities, ensuring control points, benchmarks and survey equipment are accurate, protected, recorded and appropriately calibrated.
-
Review drawings, specifications and design information; raise technical queries or requests for information early; and provide sketches, calculations and practical engineering support to keep construction progressing.
-
Implement project quality requirements and Inspection and Test Plans, completing inspections and maintaining accurate records including check sheets, test results, as-built information and handover documentation.
-
Promote high standards of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental performance, supporting risk assessments, method statements, task briefings and permits, and carrying out Temporary Works Supervisor duties where trained and formally appointed.
-
Coordinate with the wider project team and supply chain to monitor progress, identify constraints, plan labour, plant, materials and information, and maintain clear site diaries, drawing registers and engineering trackers.
About You
You will be a technically capable Site Engineer with practical construction experience, strong attention to detail and the confidence to communicate engineering requirements clearly. You will be comfortable taking ownership of an allocated area of works while collaborating with the wider project team to achieve safe, high-quality delivery.
You will bring:
-
Previous experience in a Site Engineer, Assistant Site Engineer or comparable construction engineering role, including practical setting out and dimensional control using appropriate surveying equipment.
-
The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and schedules, together with a sound understanding of Inspection and Test Plans, quality inspections, as-built records and non-conformance management.
-
A relevant construction or civil engineering qualification at HNC/HND or degree level, or equivalent technical competence gained through experience, together with an appropriate and valid CSCS card.
-
Competence in digital engineering and document-management systems, with experience using total stations, GPS equipment, digital models or common data environments being advantageous.
-
Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills; experience with a Tier 1 or established main contractor is desirable, as are SSSTS, Temporary Works Supervisor training and a full UK driving licence where travel is required.
