The Part-Time Taproom Supervisor plays a key role in delivering the warm, community-focused hospitality that defines Hackney Church Brew Co. Based within our unique brewery and taproom setting, this position is responsible for leading day-to-day taproom operations during assigned shifts, ensuring guests receive exceptional service while maintaining the high standards of quality, atmosphere, and professionalism associated with the Hackney Church Brew Co. brand.
As the senior team member on duty, the supervisor provides hands-on leadership, supports and develops front-of-house staff, and acts as the first point of contact for customer enquiries and operational issues. The role combines excellent hospitality, product knowledge, and operational oversight to create a welcoming environment where guests can enjoy our fresh beer, events, and community-focused programming.
In addition, the Taproom Supervisor, alongside the Taproom Manager, holds responsibility for managing taproom booking enquiries, ensuring reservations are handled efficiently, appropriately accommodated, and aligned with venue capacity and operational requirements. The role also supports the Taproom Manager in maintaining operational standards, staff development, and the successful delivery of the taproom's commercial and community objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Shift Leadership & Operations
· Take responsibility for the smooth and efficient running of the taproom during assigned shifts.
· Lead, motivate, and support front-of-house team members, ensuring excellent service standards are maintained at all times.
· Act as the primary decision-maker on duty, resolving operational issues and escalating matters to the Taproom Manager when required.
· Support the Taproom Manager in implementing operational procedures, service standards, and team initiatives.
· Complete opening and closing procedures, till reconciliation, end-of-day reporting, and venue security checks.
Customer Experience
· Deliver exceptional hospitality that reflects Hackney Church Brew Co.'s welcoming, inclusive, and community-driven culture.
· Engage confidently with guests, providing knowledgeable recommendations on beers, brewing processes, and seasonal offerings.
· Ensure all customers receive prompt, friendly, and professional service.
· Handle customer feedback, complaints, and service recovery situations effectively and professionally, escalating where appropriate to the Taproom Manager.
Beer & Product Knowledge
· Maintain a strong understanding of Hackney Church Brew Co.'s beer range, guest products, and current offerings.
· Champion the brewery's products through informed recommendations and upselling where appropriate.
· Ensure all beverages are served to company standards and in accordance with licensing regulations.
· Support the Taproom Manager in promoting new beer releases, seasonal offerings, and taproom initiatives.
Bookings & Events Coordination
· Alongside the Taproom Manager, manage incoming booking enquiries via email, phone, and other communication channels.
· Coordinate table reservations and group bookings, ensuring appropriate staffing and venue preparation.
· Verify and seek approval from the Taproom Manager for larger bookings where necessary.
· Support the Taproom Manager in planning and delivering brewery events, tap takeovers, private hires, live music, and community gatherings hosted within the venue.
· Ensure booking information is accurately recorded and communicated to the wider team.
Venue Standards
· Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation throughout the taproom, beer garden, and customer-facing areas.
· Ensure all furniture, signage, glassware, and service stations are presented to a high standard.
· Conduct regular venue walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance or cleanliness issues.
· Support the Taproom Manager in maintaining the overall appearance and guest experience of the venue.
Stock & Compliance
· Monitor stock levels of beer, beverages, merchandise, and consumables, communicating replenishment needs to the Taproom Manager.
· Assist with stock counts, cellar organisation, ordering processes, and inventory procedures as required.
· Ensure compliance with licensing laws, Challenge 25 procedures, health and safety requirements, food hygiene standards, and company policies.
· Support the Taproom Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-organised working environment.
· Promote a safe working environment for both staff and customers.
Communication & Teamwork
· Provide clear handovers between shifts and communicate operational updates to the Taproom Manager.
· Support the training, onboarding, and day-to-day development of new team members.
· Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that reflects the values of Hackney Church Brew Co.
· Act as a reliable deputy to the Taproom Manager, helping to ensure continuity of operations in their absence.
