We’re looking for Editorial Proof Readers to join Young Writers and help us inspire a lifelong love of creative writing in children across the UK and USA.
For over 30 years, Young Writers has been helping young people express themselves through poetry and stories. We work with schools, parents and children to publish creative writing that they’ll remember forever — over a million pieces so far, and we’re still growing!
What you'll be doing:
- Proofreading children’s poetry and prose – correcting spelling and grammar while keeping each child’s voice at the heart of the work.
- Comparing digital text against original handwritten entries to ensure every piece is accurate and polished before going to print.
- Editing and improving children’s work with care, making sure it’s the best it can be while staying true to their creativity.
- Suggesting fun and inspiring competition themes that spark creativity and encourage young people to express themselves.
- Working to clear KPIs, weekly targets and deadlines as part of a friendly, supportive team.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong proofreading skills – speed and accuracy are key in this role.
- Excellent spelling and grammar.
- Good attention to detail and an appreciation for children’s creativity.
- A positive team player who’s organised and reliable.
- Confident using a computer and comfortable working with digital tools.
Essential Requirements:
A Level in either English Literature or Language
A genuine passion for reading, you’ll be doing a lot of it in this role
Ability to meet reading speed and competency targets within recruitment process
