The duties will include collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative evidence independently regarding the social and economic impact of contemporary Welsh creative literature, contributing to the dissemination of research outcomes, and leading on organising literary events with stakeholders.
Candidates should be educated to PhD standard (or equivalent) and have previous experience with research.
Excellent communication skills in Welsh are essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence 1 October 2026.

This role is based on Bangor University campus. Through our Dynamic Working framework there will also be an option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining within the UK) to support work-life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Gather and analyse quantitative and qualitative evidence independently regarding the social and economic impact of contemporary Welsh creative literature, contributing to a research project linked to Bangor University in partnership with Public Map. The post holder will be responsible for designing appropriate evidence collection methods, analysing findings, and contributing to disseminating the research outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
The purpose of this project is to gather evidence regarding the impact of specific Welsh creative texts on society, culture, entertainment and the economy of Wales. The researcher will collect quantitative evidence by contacting presses, bookshops and organisations. They will scrutinise the media (radio, television, print, digital) for relevant evidence. They will collect qualitative evidence by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews (via e-mail and/or telephone and/or face-to-face meetings). The post holder will be responsible for helping to plan and hold a series of events such as literary readings and/or individual conferences and/or seminars. They will liaise with various external and internal stakeholders as part of the above.
- Collect and analyse quantitative evidence independently, using appropriate research methods to ensure the validity and reliability of the data. This could include the following: contacting bookshops and public bodies (e.g., the Welsh Book Council) to gather facts about book sales and related economic details; study the media (digital, print, radio and television) and gather relevant evidence.
- Design, collect and analyse qualitative evidence. This could include the following: liaising with external stakeholders to request qualitative feedback that matches the qualitative evidence collected (see above); draw up suitable questionnaires and distribute and collect them at literary events; interview specific stakeholders.
- Present the outcomes of the research to the project team, and contribute to the wider dissemination of those outcomes, for example through public reports, presentations or relevant publications. Provide regular reports to the project manager regarding progress.
- Coordinate and manage the operational aspects of the research project to ensure that aims and objectives are met. This could include: participating in and contributing to project meetings, communicating regularly with the project leader, and liaising with stakeholders (external and internal).
- Monitor financial regulations linked to the research project, ensuring that expenditure is within budget.
- Lead on organising a series of live events on the Bangor University campus, collaborating with the project team and liaising with relevant stakeholders.
- The post-holder will be expected to participate in performance reviews and development activities.
