Are you an experienced accounting professional with an
AAT Level 4 qualification looking for your next opportunity within a friendly and established accountancy practice?
Our client is looking for an AAT Qualified Accountant to join their Small Business Team in Ilkeston. This is a varied role where you will take responsibility for a portfolio of clients, manage accounts work within agreed deadlines and budgets, and build strong, long-term relationships with clients and third parties.
You'll play an important role within the team, supporting junior colleagues while providing a professional and responsive service to a diverse range of small business clients.
As the new AAT Qualified Accountant, you will:
- Manage a portfolio of small business clients, taking responsibility for their day-to-day service and client care
- Plan and organise accounting assignments, ensuring work is completed within agreed budgets and timescales
- Monitor workloads, productivity, and recovery rates across the accounts team
- Build strong and professional relationships with clients and third parties
- Respond to client correspondence and queries promptly and professionally
- Support and develop trainees and junior members of the team
- Identify opportunities to introduce clients to additional services offered by the practice
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with professional standards and internal procedures
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with GDPR requirements
- Follow relevant Money Laundering Regulations and Practice Assurance procedures
- Keep your professional knowledge and skills up to date through appropriate development and training
- Use AI and other technology responsibly and in accordance with professional and company guidelines
Main Requirements for This Role
- AAT Level 4 qualification is essential
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice or similar professional environment
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients would be advantageous
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Confident communicating with clients, colleagues, and third parties
- Strong attention to detail and a professional approach
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team
- Good IT skills and confidence working with accounting and office-based systems
- Commitment to maintaining professional standards and confidentiality

About this role:

- Hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (35 hours a week)
- Based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7
- Working within the Small Business Team
- Reporting to the Office Manager / Partner
