Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Structured Cabling and Fibre Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex telecommunication and network systems across various sites. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise in fibre optics, copper cabling, and network infrastructure, ensuring reliable connectivity and optimal performance. Duties
- Install, test, and commission structured cabling systems including fibre optic and Ethernet networks in commercial and industrial settings.
- Conduct site surveys to determine the most efficient routing for cables, adhering to schematics and technical specifications.
- Perform fibre splicing, termination, and testing using specialised hand tools to ensure high-quality connections.
- Configure and troubleshoot network equipment such as Cisco routers, switches, VoIP systems, and Juniper devices.
- Integrate telecommunication systems including CCTV, Avaya communication platforms, and other VoIP solutions.
- Read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and network layouts to guide installation processes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all installations, repairs, and upgrades for client records.
- Perform equipment repair or replacement as necessary to minimise downtime.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations during all phases of installation and maintenance work.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in network installation, fibre optics, telecommunication systems or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of computer networking principles including Ethernet protocols, VLANs, and IP addressing schemes.
- Familiarity with CCTV systems, Avaya communication platforms, Juniper devices, Cisco routers and VoIP technology.
- Proficiency with hand tools used in fibre splicing, cable termination, and electrical work.
- Ability to read technical schematics accurately and interpret electrical diagrams for installation purposes.
- Electrical experience or background is highly desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in documentation and project execution.
- Good problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to troubleshooting issues on-site.
- Relevant certifications such as Fibre Optic Installer (FOI), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or similar are advantageous.
Additional Information
- Full UK driving licence is essential.
- Work is primarily Monday to Friday, with regular opportunities for overtime and weekend working on selected projects.
- Some contracts will require working away from home, with overnight stays where necessary.
