Kwik Fab is a busy, family-run metal fabrication company based in Aston, Birmingham. We provide laser cutting, sheet-metal folding, guillotining, welding and bespoke fabrication services for commercial and industrial customers.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a reliable and experienced person to join our workshop team.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on position suited to someone who is comfortable working in a busy fabrication workshop. The successful candidate will help manufacture jobs from drawings and customer specifications while maintaining good quality and keeping work moving efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC machines to produce high-precision components according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Programme, set up, and adjust CNC equipment using CAD/CAM software such as SolidEdge and other relevant programmes.
- Fabricate parts through various methods including laser cutting, welding, and assembly, ensuring quality standards are met.
- Handle materials safely and efficiently within the workshop, including materials handling and tooling management.
- Use hand tools and specialised equipment to perform fabrication tasks such as cutting, drilling, and welding.
- Assist in the development of fabrication processes and optimise machine performance for efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organised workspace adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with team members on projects requiring mechanical knowledge and assembly expertise.
- Conduct routine inspections of fabricated parts and perform basic troubleshooting on machinery when necessary.
Depending on experience, duties may include:
- Operating a fibre laser cutting machine
- Loading and unloading steel sheets
- Operating a press brake and guillotine
- MIG welding and general fabrication
- Measuring, marking out and preparing materials
- Reading engineering and fabrication drawings
- Grinding, cleaning and finishing completed components
- Checking finished work for quality and accuracy
- Packing and preparing completed orders
- Maintaining a clean and safe working area
- Assisting with general workshop duties when required
Experience and Skills
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in metal fabrication, engineering or a similar workshop environment
- Can confidently use a tape measure and basic measuring equipment
- Understands dimensions, tolerances and material thicknesses
- Can read basic engineering or fabrication drawings
- Works accurately and takes pride in the quality of their work
- Is reliable, punctual and willing to work as part of a team
- Can manage their workload and follow instructions
- Understands workshop health and safety
Experience operating laser cutting machines, press brakes, guillotines or CNC equipment would be an advantage.
MIG welding and fabrication experience would also be beneficial, although applicants do not need to be experienced in every area listed.
