Ledgers and Wages Clerk

Purpose of the Role
The Ledgers and Wages Clerk role is key in ensuring CHT makes accurate and timely payments to suppliers and staff, alongside the timely raising of sales invoices and collection of cash from customers.
You will be part of a team that works together to pay suppliers correctly and on time, run the weekly payroll for warehouse staff, raise sales invoices, collect customer debts, and support the preparation of management accounts. The Accounts function is a central part of Chris Hayter Transport operations.
Main responsibilities
· Act as the primary Purchase Ledger Clerk, matching supplier invoices to purchase orders and resolving any queries or discrepancies.
· Manage payments on the Purchase Ledger, loading to the bank for approval, and ensuring suppliers are paid correctly and on time including statement reconciliations.
· Prepare and process weekly Payroll for warehouse staff.
· Cover the Sales Ledger, including raising sales invoices and allocating customer receipts.
· Support the collection of customer debts.
· Assist with analysing transactions and creating journals for monthly accounts.
· Prepare reports which will be relied upon for management accounts and decision making.
Knowledge and abilities required
Essential:
· Recognised education to include English Language and Mathematics (or tested equivalent).
· Knowledge of computerised accounts systems.
· Experience of purchase ledger, invoice matching and bank reconciliation.
· Proficient with Excel and Word.
· Ability to multitask, prioritise and manage different tasks alongside each other.
· Approachable, open to change and flexible are key requirements.
· Reliable and conscientious with an excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
· Ability to work effectively within an established team.
· Ability to demonstrate excellent levels of commitment and confidentiality.
· Self-motivated and calm under pressure.
Desirable:
· Experience of running or assisting with payroll.
· Knowledge of Sage 200 and Sage Payroll.
· Experience of working within an office environment.
Hours of work
· Full-time days, Monday to Friday, fully office based.
· 40 hours per week between 08:00 and 17:00, one hour break for lunch.
· 30 holidays per year, including bank holidays.
· Company pension included.
Pay: £30,000.00 per year
