The Weighbridge Operative is responsible for the efficient operation of the site weighbridge, ensuring the accurate administration of all incoming and outgoing vehicles. The role supports the effective implementation of the site's traffic management plan, maintains accurate records of waste movements, and ensures compliance with environmental permits, waste legislation, and company procedures. The position also provides general administrative support to assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the site weighbridge, accurately weighing all vehicles entering and leaving the site.
- Process all waste deliveries and collections using the weighbridge management system (currently Avery).
- Verify and complete all required documentation, including weighbridge tickets, waste transfer notes, hazardous waste consignment notes, duty of care documentation and delivery paperwork.
- Ensure only authorised waste is accepted in accordance with the site's Environmental Permit and Waste Acceptance Procedures.
- Direct incoming and outgoing vehicles safely around the site while supporting the site's traffic management plan.
- Monitor vehicle movements and communicate loading, tipping and collection requirements to operational staff.
- Carry out all required checks on outgoing loads before they leave site.
- Ensure visitors, contractors and drivers comply with site rules and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Record site inputs, outputs and stock movements accurately using spreadsheets and internal systems.
- Respond professionally to customer, supplier and contractor enquiries via telephone, email and in person.
- Maintain accurate records and filing systems in accordance with company procedures.
- Report any discrepancies, prohibited waste, documentation issues or operational concerns to the Site Manager immediately.
- Assist with general administrative duties to support site operations.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional weighbridge office.
Essential
- Previous administrative or customer service experience.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise work and perform under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous weighbridge experience.
- Experience within the waste management, recycling, transport or logistics industry.
- Experience using Avery Weighbridge software or similar weighbridge systems.
