Family Practitioner – CANW

CANW (Child Action North West) is seeking dedicated and skilled Family Practitioners to join our growing team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with children and families, delivering high‑quality, safe and structured family time that supports positive outcomes and strengthens relationships.
About the Role
As a Family Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering safe, child‑centred family time sessions across a range of settings. You will use professional judgement, observation and assessment skills to ensure children’s welfare remains at the heart of all practice.
You will contribute to high‑quality service delivery by producing clear, evidence‑based reports, managing your own caseload, and working collaboratively with families and professionals. Your work will support decision‑making processes within the family justice system and wider safeguarding frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, structured and high‑quality family time sessions in line with CANW, CAFCASS and NACCC standards.
- Plan, supervise, observe and assess family time across various settings, including contact centres, community venues, family homes and outdoor locations.
- Provide support, guidance and interventions to children and parents/carers, using evidence‑based tools, modelling and signposting.
- Identify and address issues relating to co‑parenting, parental engagement and parenting capacity, ensuring children’s best interests remain central.
- Safeguard children at all times, using professional judgement to identify risk, intervene appropriately and terminate sessions where necessary.
- Complete risk assessments and undertake assessments with clear analysis and recommendations.
- Manage an independent caseload, maintaining accurate, timely and compliant case records.
- Produce high‑quality written reports suitable for professional and court‑based decision‑making.
- Attend court as a professional witness when required.
- Carry out administrative duties including diary management, organising meetings and maintaining effective communication with families and professionals.
- Build constructive, professional relationships with families, including those with complex needs.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, supervision, team meetings and training.
- Source and review venues to ensure they are safe and appropriate for service delivery.
Organisational Responsibilities
- Represent CANW at meetings, conferences and events.
- Provide a fair, inclusive and non‑discriminatory service.
- Adhere to Health & Safety, safeguarding and data protection policies, including UK GDPR.
- Work within agreed budgets and maintain accurate records.
- Contribute to organisational development and quality standards (e.g., PQASSO, Investors in People).
- Meet agreed KPIs and engage in ongoing professional development.
- Undertake additional duties or training as required.
